Sad but true, quitting Pentax

Here we are, nothing about a fullframer from Pentax and seems like it'll take years to go there, I am in a stage to sell my Pentax gear and looking at the Sony a900 / a850 or the Nikon D700 to get the FF.
I have an offer for an Sony a900 for 1999€ (last in store) and i am 99% close to take it now. I like Pentax and was just about to buy the Pentax K-7 but i just really wanted to know the Pentax/Hoya would release an FF during the next 12 or 24 months, but seems like they totally dumped that.
The choice between the D700 and A900 is bit difficult for me anyway at this moment, but as it seems now, bye bye Pentax!

If you're making a switch, at least go for the D700... Much better investment in a long run... Just try to sell a Sony lens... you'll see...

you might be right in that one, the small AI-S nikkor wideangles were just amazing.
Maybe a D700, AF-D 20-35/2.8 and the AF-D 80-200/2.8 and a flash, should do it, plus an 50/1.4?
Anyway the prices i've seen for the D700 is only about 150€ more than the A900 offer i got.

I can't suggest you any lenses since I don't know what you're shooting... but I'd wait for the 80-200 as the FF-version is only coming out this autumn...

I'm sort of in the same boat... Though i'm not after FF... Details might get posted in the marketplace...

D700 could get cheaper, as its at end of lifecycle,

well if you believe the D700s (12mp HD) & D700x (24mp) rumours floating around.

If I were picking I'd choose D700 over Sony Platform choice. If you fall out of love with D700 , it will retain better resale value over a Sony Full Frame. I own a D700 & its a fine camera. I added it to my fairly complete Canon 5D System which inturn was added to my Pentax Digital system. D700 is Quite well built and you can use all those 1977 Ai era lenses on it. You can input up to 9 old nikon lenses into the camera for full metadata. You change the aperture and its automatically changes in the camera's viewfinder as if there was an electrical connection. Neat design, quite handy.

I'm on the edge of deleting my Pentax gear selections too, not cause of a lack of full frame in near future but because it all never goes on trips with us. Seems pointless to keep it to just leave it behind. Three brands I have inhand is really one brand too many. My money invested in K Mount would serve me better elsewhere. Had Pentax offered a full frame last year I wouldn't have bought two Canon 5D. So I get where you're coming from. Full Frame Dslrs with biggie size viewfinders are a pleasure to shoot ultrawide & fast aperture glass with.

The only bad thing about Nikon is the lack of ability to use old other brand lenses on it due to flange range, Canon would be the solution, but i dont like canon as i had EOS film cameras before and never really felt comfortable with them. Nikon has great lenses, but but, i rally dont know which one to go for at this point. I'll keep selling away my Pentax lenses and save the money to another system.

Oh, how come it was designed for film then? the FF and 35mm film covers the same area. I dont know what lens you are referring to but i was thinking of the Nikkor 80-200/2.8 AF-D

Just out of curiosity, what lens are you thinking of? The Nikon 80-200/2.8 is old design, i never heard about a version just for APS-C?
