Do you just sit around hitting "refresh" on the Comparometer page? Does it pay well?

hmmm. What lenses were used in this? Remember that canon has pre-production firmware yet, so you cant compare them yet. I saw few photos taken on high iso, and they were like K-7 or worse.

Canon really need to learn from nikon. Nikon wont battle with megapixels, they build good, fast and user-friendly cameras. And also they are brilliant in high iso pics.
(nikon just dont have limited lenses at theis production)

But im good with my K-7. Its good and has same features than D300/D300s and at lower price! I just want more lenses now! (just bought Pentax M 50mm/1,7) Arriving today...

Canon image size is a lot smaller than K7's while resolution is higher. More aggressive jpg-compression.

I would say that the new Canon 7D is a K7 killer. They are right on top of their game.

The 7D is very nice, but unless one is invested in Canon gear or is a sports photographer, the K-7 represents a more compelling package:

- $400 less expensive than the Canon
- In-body image stabilization (SR) works with all existing lenses
- 77 weather seals (in Canon, sub-1D series "seals" are a marketing joke)
- Smaller and much lighter (758 gram vs. 945 gram, according to imaging-resource.com)
- DNG support
- Manual or automatic horizon correction using sensor tilt; Composition adjustment via sensor shift
- Pixel remapping
- Digital preview
- Automatic AF correction based on ambient light color temperature
- AF Assist lamp
- HyperProgram
- LCD color calibration
- Cold weather support down to -10 degree C
- Dust alert
- 3-exposure HDR
- Copyright embedding in EXIF
- Multiple exposures up to 9 exposures (without tone mapping or overexposure)
- The green button; ISO, WB and Menu button accessible using the right hand;
- Wider selection of sealed lenses (including two affordable ones); Much wider selection of stabilized lenses (via SR)

Prog.

Northlight has an extensive write up on Canon 7D

Northlight has an extensive write up on Canon 7D

Northlight, a popular Canon rumours site had this camera pretty much right a couple weeks ago.

As usual they have all the specs up at announcement and new technology specifics in detail:

Come just in time for father's day.... clever idea Canon.
But an observation:

How many Mp are enough?
Just a little more...

How much high-ISO performance is enough?
Just a little more...

How many fps are enough?
Just a little more...

We don't seem to know when to be happy with the gear we have and use it to the best of its abilities. Just human nature I suppose that we keep wanting just a little more when we don't even know what for...

Canon competes with Nikon

Canon competes with Nikon and Nikon has more frames per second in the D300, D300s.

So its time for Canon to offer more FPS whether people need it or not.

Once you take a K-7 at $1299 and add a grip to it for better ergonomics you're then mighty close to Canon 7D price.

The 7D shows me a comitment to crop format that up till now Canon has not displayed.

I'll have to re-think Canon dropping aps-c now with this well spec'd 7D available.

The 18mp spec aps-c rumour was out there for a while now.

I found this interesting with the recent threads and comments here saying megapixel race was over...

Maybe its Over for Olympus, Over for Pentax, but the Megapixel race and Spec Wars continues for Canon & Nikon.

Hmm, obviously "YMMV" when it comes to ergonomics -- I'd say the K-7 is way better feeling (without the grip!) than those giant bloated beasts Canon and Nikon keep releasing at the high end...

I thought that was kind of a silly statement too. If you price the K-7 with grip, wouldn't you price the 7D with grip too? Or, I guess you could say, "Once you add a flash to the K-7 the price is the same." Or, "Once you buy a bag and nice tripod for the K-7 the price is the same." Weird.

btw, I bought the K10D over the D200 and 40D because of ergonomics, and the feel of the K-7 in my hands blows away the K10D...no grip needed.
