indoor photography

I mostly take landscape and motorsport photography, using a DS with Sigma EX lens either 50-500 f5.6 or 24-70 f2.8 or 10-20 F5.6.

When I take photo's using the 24-70 lens of nephew playing basketball, the shots look over exposed and slightly blurred. When I tried to shot at a faster speed say at 500ps the shot comes out black.
I prefer to use the manual functions of the DS and I'm not using a flash.

Has anyone taken fast moving photo's indoor? if so what was the Tv or Av setting.

Sometimes, if in doubt, I use the P setting and let the camera decide. I check what it picked and then go to T or Av and adjust until I get what I want. It works for me, but I am just an amateur, so others may have a better idea.

I would just stick to AV setting fixed on the brightest aperture as possible. Then the quality of the lens would be very crucial. Part of the fun is about playing with depth of field.

I've taken photos of hockey with my DS. It's outdoors but at night so not that well lit. I just opened the aperture right up, set the ISO to 3200 and was lucky to get speeds of 1/60. Some were blurry, obviously, but some quite acceptable, and if it's family photos it's certainly good enough for "the record".
