Wein Safe-Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe

I would like to use my old Vivitar flashes with my K20 D. I see that I can buy a voltage reducer. The Wein SSHSHS Safe-Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe comes up the most on a Google search. I have read that there are different Wein versions that lower the voltage different amounts and that Wein is not forthcoming when it comes to specs.

(1) What is your solution?

(2) Has anyone safely used a Vivitar 283 with a Pentax digital camera, with or w/o the votage protection?

(3) What are the drawbacks of the Wein unit?

Thanks,

Tom

I owned two Vivitar 283 units (both sold) with 8.4V trigger voltage. I used them with my K10D bodies without any problem. I also had another Vivitar 283 but with the trigger voltage of 180V. It didn't get anywhere near my K10Ds.

I would be $50 poorer!
