Why K7?

Anyone know why the 'latest and greatest' was named K7? I know there was a K2 but what happened to K3, 4, 5 & 6?

The number 7 is very auspicious in Japanese culture...that might have played a role in the name selection.

Look at the Canon - 7D, Nikon D7.....you get the idea...

Is it? I thought it was number 8 that was lucky in the Orient.

Somewhere in this forum, there is the answer. My skills with the search function are just not letting me find it.

Itis named after the K-7 mountain (in Pakistan I think). It was climbed by a Japanese team 25 years ago.

The name of the camera is a tribute to the team, and a symbol of the rugged weather proof camera itself.

here is a link to the mountain: K7 Rock Walls

Like I said, somewhere in this forum all this is explained. I just can't find it.

Whether that is true or not - that's what I will tell people when they ask!

I wonder too, why start at 7, unless you want to go into a completely no-sense naming scheme, like the km -> kx. Much better when the naming scheme tells you where something fits into the lineup.
