Help! Autofocus switch stuck on AF.S and will not autofocus!

Hi we tried an old lens in our K20D and it was a manual focus lens, I'm not sure if we put it on when it was in AF.S mode or not, but now when we put our proper autofocus lenses back on it will not autofocus and on the screen it says MF even though the switch on the front will physically not move back to MF

Really confused and hope we have not broken our lovely camera!! Any help or suggestions would be great

We tried all of the different lenses we have, cleaned the contacts, taken battery out for hours, taken out memory card, restored settings to default and still no luck, getting quite panicked that we have done something drastically wrong by putting a manual focus lens on when in Autofocus mode! Surely Pentax wouldn;t let the camera break due to this???

Thansk in advance

Paul

hi Paul, try removing the lenses then start turning the focus selection mode lever from MF to AF back and forth. and try to look at the screwdrive contact if it moves in and out of the mounting. it's possible that it got stucked.

another thing is, what AF lens are you using? did your AF lens have an independent AF control switch? if it does, then turn it at AF. your lens would not focus automatically even if it is set at AF in your camera. you must turn the AF lever in the lens as well. hope this helps.

My K100D has a Custom Menu item called "OK button when Shooting" one of the settings (3) disables auto focus unless the OK button is pressed. Make sure this setting is not selected. A way to check is to see if your lens will autofocus when the ok button is pressed.

This happened to me.
