Comparison K-x, K-m, K200D

Since some see the K-x as a replacement for the K200D I have posted a comparison of the K-x and K200D in the K-x camera review section. I threw the K-m/K2000 into the comparison for good measure for those trying to decide between the two. Enjoy!

Great idea Ole.
I envisage many newbs and those seeking a smaller system would find this head-to-head analysis a useful decision-making tool.
Well done.

Ole, I posted this response in another thread, but I think it is relative to what you did.

Apparently the idea that the K-x replaces the K200d arises from a statement made by DiPReview on the K-x and perpetuated by Amazon. Although you are probably aware of it.

QuoteQuote:
The Pentax K-x sits in the slot previously occupied by the company's K200D - one of the best-specified entry-level DSLRs on the market in its time - though that position has now been elevated by the arrival of a new breed of simplified models below it. In Pentax's line-up that means the K2000/K-m designed to entice compact camera users into DSLR ownership with its easy-to-use interface and diminutive scale, and it's that camera the K-x is immediately reminiscent of (they share the same body).

However, my take on the Pentax Imaging press release is that it is replacing the K-m. There may not be a K200d replacement per se.

Priced at $649.95 USD (for body with DA L 18-55mm lens), the extremely compact and lightweight PENTAX K-x forges ahead on the trail initiated by the popular PENTAX K2000.

Regardless, they are plenty cryptic. Perhaps Ole or Adam could email Michele Martin and ask her if she can clarify.

Nice work. Thanks.

K200D has D-range function and weather resist.

Your info -
Expanded dynamic range - No

Please, put info about AF indicators in VF. K200D has it.

Michele Martin has never responds to any of my queries. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the K-m will go away. If it does that would be quite a short life it got. Or perhaps they will lower the price so that the M-m becomes the most competitive DSLR out there?

according to IR, K-x has pixel mapping, D-range enhancement, both shadow and highlight like K-7:

Pentax K-x Digital Camera - Hands-On Preview - The Imaging Resource!

Also, whats with places listing +/- 5 EV compensation for the K-x? error?

Wish the navy blue one had the lens colored similarly - but I guess the glossy finish evens it out.

According to DPReview, K-x have also lens correction like K-7. K-m and K200D doesn't have it.

Yeah totally, all you can do is laugh about it I guess - if he is so sad and the camera is not for him - (his own words, mellow dramatic frown and all) - I think it is time to take a break from the board!

Crippled KAF2 mount for K-x, K-m, and K200D? That's not very PC. How does "physically challenged" KAF2 mount sound instead?

Thanks Ole - I'm sure those considering the change will use this.

Personally, I've got a feeling they'll sell buckets of the KX - especially with the video and cute colours (my daughter has already says she'd love one!).

But a few corrections (some already mentioned)/amendments....
K200D has Sv mode, DNG as well as PEF and JPG, and an optical as well digital DOF preview, shadow and highlight display on back LCD image, a top LCD and 1.1FPS JPG 10*** low speed until the card is full like the KM.

Still love my K200D

Cheers
