Yes, this is being sold on Amazon, but by a third party vendor. Who are you really doing business with?

One of the reasons NOT to buy from Amazon. It's kind of silly that they would even do that. I suppose they will get a few dubbers to buy it at that price though.

Well, this most definitely is NO reason to not buy from amazon. I think the actual 3rd party retailer selling THROUGH amazon is typically well displayed (in this case easily identified on the right side add to cart button as Ships from and Sold by Allabout Electronics).

And regarding this crazy price, this is pretty typical of 3rd party retailers selling pretty much any discontinued product - this may be alittle early for the K20d in particular, but go search a pentax *ist DS and you will find used/new ranging from $400 close to $1K, same with the K100d and probably pretty much any other discontinued camera from any manufacturer.

So please stop this silly amazon paranoia - buying direct from them is great, amazingly easy return policy and typically very fast shipping. And most of the retailers who sell through them (such as adorama, willoughbys, etc) are not unscrupulous. 3 years from now there may be someone that absolutely wants a brand new, in box k20d (for what I wouldnt know or care to guess), and that other retailer might be the only place to get it. That is the reason for the insane price. None of us, who peruse camera forums on a regular basis, and arent crazy collectors (for the most part!) simply move on. *end rant!*

Amazon tends to be in line with other vendors when it comes to current products. With the K20 discontinued, they won't have it any more, but others with old stock will continue to sell through them. You can currently buy a brand new K10 from a 3rd party vendor on Amazon for 899, a K100 for 799, etc. It is odd that people charge such high prices for old stock, but I guess someone must buy it, otherwise they wouldn't charge them.

I have been very happy with my dealings with Amazon and even the third party vendors, although as a wise shopper, I always check with other reputable places to be certain they are in line.

i think they should protect their customers. someone who doesn't have any background or new to DSLR may buy that especially if you dont do any researching. . last time i also check the Pentax SMCP-FA 50mm f/1.4 Lens also from a 3rd party vendor on Amazon went up to $600 - $800. but now its $359.95 2 months ago its was about $250.

i dunno why pentax lenses went high up. it seems that their DSLRs has the best value in the market especially the Kx which is only $650 at a starting price about $200-$300 more that its competitors but they are gaining more back with their lenses with the recent price hike.

That is just like saying someone should protect all the customers who walk into the local camera store here, who try and peddle the 2x2gb SD card packs for just $35! Some people dont care about doing the research. If someone has enough money to blow $800 bucks on something without doing any research, then I dont think they need any help (unless they are stupid and living beyond their means with credit, in which case I would actually feel bad for the bank when that person over extends themselves and cant pay it back).

If you think THAT's insane, some clown on Amazon has a "new" Olympus C5050 on sale for $2006.00!. It's been up there for quite a while, no takers, not surprisingly. This was a nice P&S of a few years ago (I have two of them) but nowhere near that price. Maybe this guy is hoping some idiot will bite.

Allaboutelectronics is playing the system for that very reason, I think. I noticed they had a DA 21mm listed for close to $1,000 or so as well.

Showing up now at $768.88 for body only and $764.49 for body + kits lens. So, $4.39 cheaper if you get the kit lens. WTF??
