Weather sealing and selectable focus points are the two big advantages the K200D has, but given that the K200D was discontinued quite some time ago, it's not a choice many people are even faced with.

I have had my K100D for a year now (bought it 2nd hand). Have been mooning over a 2nd hand K20D ever since the K7 came out. But the cost has been just a little bit over what I have in my wallet.

Then the K-x was announced, whooaa! That's probably the camera for me, though I probably will need until April next year to save up for it. (the time is also needed to convince the wife .

Then just 3 days ago, I was able to borrow a K200D. What has been a simmering upgrade itch now is a full blown NEED! Talk about more detail, more positive AF. Now I am able to appreciate why I bought the Sigma 24-60/2.8 in the first place. I was already thinking of tossing it together with the K100D to help fund the K20D acquisition. It's a whole new lens now.

Though I was considering the K-x, I think the K20D is a more apt solution for me. The pentaprism because my eyes are somewhat problematic. And the (possibly) more robust construction, considering I won't be able to upgrade for a long while.

Sorry for the long post.

I wnet from the k100d to the K7. I only missed AAs when I had 1 k7 battery. I got a $15 ebay as a backup and i am happy. The spare battery is smaller and lighter than a set of AAs and lasts longer.

You can use AA's on your K7 with a grip, just wondering how reliable third party cheap grips are, any negative experience with them from K7 users I'd like to know?

The new K-x looks interesting....AVI video, HDR mode, broader ISO range, 1/6000 shutter, 2 more megapixels, lighter....

Other than the weather proofing, why would anyone choose the K200d?
You can also add a grip on the K200D apart form the other features that Marc pointed out.
I myself would prefer the K200D over the Kx.
The K200D looks more serious than one with colors..of which you already know who the target market is.

I just upgraded from a K100D Super to a K10D and I love it so far. I guess if you're going to upgrade to the K200D you're not getting that much more. Just more pixels, wheatersealing and some minor upgrades. Which isn't nothing, but compared to what you can get with a K10D it's not that much either. You're still stuck with the same body, pentamirror and amount of external controls. With the K10D you get everything the K200D is and more, much more. Have you ever held one in your hand? It just feels like alot more camera (and it is).
And since many former K10D owners are upgrading to a K-7, the secondhand market is full of K10D's, which makes them very, very cheap.

And regarding your AA batteries - I used to feel the same. But now I just have alot of spares for my flash, and since my K10D came with 2 accu's I don't think I'll ever run out of power.

DR matters

I think you people missing one important issue. Just a reminder:

From dpreview, 100 ISO Sensitivity and Dynamic Range (EV).

K7 = 8.6
K20D = 9
K200D = 9 ISO 800 = 9.4 (interesting)
K10D = 7.3
K100D ISO 200 = 7.5 ISO400 7.9

Competitors

Sony DSC-HX1 =

ISO 100 8.6
ISO 200 9.4
ISO 400 9.4

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro

ISO 100 11.8
ISO 200 11.8

Wondering what K-x will be.....

Except if you read the discussions in the dpreview forums, you'll see it's been established that these numbers are not valid. They aren't actually measuring dynamic range, but simply the gamma / pre-processing curve of the JPEG engine.

Ok, where do we find the real thing then?

Just to put a conclusion on my post, I would up buying a used K-x due to cost/availability. Still pining after a K-R but in the meantime, I'm pretty happy. My largest beef with the K-x is the lack of focus indicator in the viewfinder, but that's about it...honestly this is a lot of camera for the $$$.

You sure they're not just turned off? You can enable/disable the red square autofocus point in every Pentax DSLR I've had so far. (And I always turn them off). The green hexagon at the bottom of the screen is the actual focus confirmation indicator, by the way.

The K-x doesn't have visible autofocus points in the viewfinder, but the used focus point is indicated on the rear LCD screen.

But, this thread is over two years old, so....
