K-7 Viewfinder

Do any of you guys find the viewfinder of K-7 a bit on the dark side? Or is it just me? Me personally, I like it that way because it seems a bit easier to focus manually. I was wondering if that was done on purpose.....

Yes. My K-7's viewfinder looks darker and smaller than my former Nikon D90. But Nikon use some trick to light the viewfinder, e.g. it will be dark when you remove the battery. And maybe because of smc coating, the image looks a little red to me. And Nikon with AF 50/1.4 looks a little yellow.

A good thing is you get 100% or even larger (some lens like 16-45) view with K-7. :-)

Like I said, the weird thing is that it does not bother me at all. I wonder if it was done on purpose. I manual focus a lot, and for some reasons, it is easier than K10 or K20. I am also wondering with pentaprism being pretty much the same as that of K20, how did they accomplish near 100%. I was told that SR has something to do with it, but not in great details.......

Somebody said that is on purpose for manual focus when I first asked this question exactly here months before.

Ah, thanks. That makes me feel better. For a while I thought I was hallucinating or something...

I always wondered about that. When I was shooting soccer pics with a friend's D90 and the battery ran out, I wanted to use it as a sort of telescope/monocular, but it got so dark! I thought it was the lens stopping down (maybe opposed to the Pentax lenses being wide open by default), but now that I think about it, I heard nothing.

I saw the thread but what was the explanation for the D90 being dark with no battery?

The D90, like several other Nikons, has a transparent LCD in the viewfinder, for overlaying the "rule of thirds" grid and the AF points. That LCD loses much of its transparentness when not powered.
