K-7 & slower FPS with system flash

Hi,

I've got issue with my K-7. When I set FPS at hi, it works fine at 5.2FPS. When I mount flash on K-7 even if the flash is turned off, only mounted, FPS became slower to 3 or less in modes Av, Tv, Sv, P. In M mode is everything ok = 5.2 FPS.

Flash is mounted only, not switched on. Same problem in AF.S and MF (in af.c i understand, it needs time to focus)

Flash is metz 58 af-1, somebody tested it with same results with some sigma flash ..

Thx for any help

I notice that when I mount the 540 flash on the K-7 that there is a noticeable lag between when I push the shutter button and when the picture is taken. This is after focus has been locked. It is very odd, and only happens when the flash is attached. Do you notice that as well?

Not sure if it relevant but I just bought an old 240Z so tested this - no difference at all for me

Apparently there is a glitch with the Metz flashes and the K-7, even when switched off but still mounted on the hot-shoe. This has been reported here by a member reading a German forum. You should hassle Metz I think for a firmware upgrade.

It is not limited to Metz. My Sigma EF-500 DG SUPER causes the same behavior.

What has not been confirmed yet is if a genuine Pentax flash like the AF540 or AF360 causes the same thing.

I wrote to support pentaximaging, but it's 10 days ago and still no answer :-( Problem is, it sometimes happens without flash too, ie. I tried it in low light Av mode f 2.8, iso was auto (2500) and shutter speed was 1/400 .. same problem low fps ..

Why would the firmware of a switched off device matter?

Drive mode shooting with AF-C in low-light may definitely experience a slow-down, especially with a moving subject.
The AF will still make an attempt to focus, and the AF-assist light won't be functioning in AF-C. The shutter will still trip if the camera cannot achieve AF-lock, but the fps reduces.

I haven't noticed any problem with fps slowdown with the AF 540 Flash mounted but switched off, though I hardly ever do that. The AF540 may be able to fire off a few rapid shots at low power, but it definitely cannot keep up with drive mode when it has stop to re-charge.

True that. Apparently Sigma also does it - a Pentax problem then?
