The bottom line bodes well for Pentax: "Highly Recommended"!

I think the K-7 competes both with the D300 and also with the much cheaper Nikon D90 (currently $815 at Amazon) and the Canon 50D (currently $1042 at Amazon). The Pentax K-7's price at Amazon currently is $1100. (All prices are for body only.) If you compare the four cameras side by side, simply in terms of specs in a list, the K-7 seems to sit somewhere in between the D90 and the D300.

Shake reduction is not mentioned as a plus in the conclusion. Either it is a glaring omission or the reviewers believe that it is as much a positive (stabilisation for fast primes, wide angles, legacy lenses, cheaper lenses) as it is a negative point (no lens-specific stabilisation for long focal lenses)?.

They tried to test the Shake Reduction using the FA 50 and they felt like it only gave about two stops of shake reduction (much less than the three to four stops others have experienced). Basically they felt like it helps some, but not as much as either Olympus' system or, in lens shake reduction.

So that isn't a "plus" anymore?

BTW, I don't agree with their testing method which involves holding the camera with one hand only. That's not realistic. That's not what a SR system should be designed to handle.

k7, isnt a bad camera but its just not what i would consider a major update.... a k20d with video... and at the expense of noise due to the faster read out chip. (Ill hold out for the k8!

Pentax's model line up is all over the place at the moment imo, its not really clear what is what. I bet a real k20d replacement is still coming and the k7 is a k200d replacement.

Perhaps you should have another good lock at all the improvements and additions that were made...

I believe you haven't really tried out the K-7 yet personallly and based your conclusion on the statements of some people here. maybe you should give it a little bit of a whirl. you might get surprised what it is capable of doing more than just a K20D with video and improved noise (chroma) output. yes, I said Improved Noise output since there is less disruptive noise as to increased noise details. but aside from those two misconceptions regarding the K-7, you should need to to take a closer look.

Yeah, basically that. There's more to the K-7 vs. the K20D than a run-down of specs can really convey. The K-7 really is a much more responsive and usable camera (but I admit, I have had little experience with the K20). The K-7 really is a joy to take pictures with. Sure, not a real reason to upgrade for K20D owners, but for people torn between the two, I would say go for the K-7 if you have the extra cash.

I'm not sure this part of the review is correct:

QuoteQuote:
The K-7 has a 'P-TTL' pop-up flash unit which has an electronic catch-type release (meaning it can be raised manually or automatically by the camera).
I'm pretty sure that my K-7 never pops up the flash automatically.
