Are Oly lenes more expensive than pentax? Their kit lenses are excellent and dirt cheap, the 14-54 is cheaper than our 17-70, the 50-200 is cheaper than the 60-250, the 9-18 is way cheaper than the 12-24 .......... i'm not seeing Oly as expensive at all compared to Pentax.

Maybe the consumer lenses are not more expensive, but just look at the equivalents to the Limited series or to the DA* lenses:

AF Zuiko 2,8-4,0/12-60 SWD FT app. 950 Euros
even the lowly Olympus AF Zuiko 3,5-5,6/14-42 FT, which is equivalent to the Pentax kit lens costs 220 Euros or doubel the price of the DA 18-55
The problem is, that you can have either very slow lenses from Oly or the big guns, which then all set you back thousands. There is no medium priced high quality range, like the Pentax 60-250/4 or the 50-135/2.8 etc. Oly is either cheaper and mdeiocre or extremely expensive.

That's not true at all. The kit lenses (14-42 etc) are essentially given away with bodies, the "medium price/high quality" are exactly that with equal quality tthe Pentax gear but cheaper.

The Oly 50-200 is in the same league as the Pentax 60-250 and the 14-54 the same as the 17-70.

The 12-60 is virtually identical in price to the Pentax 16-50.

The 50mm f/2 macro is $100 cheaper than the Pentax 2.8 50mm macro or 100mm (similar effective FL not available).

I am just not seeing any validity to the arguments that the lenses ar emore expensive. They have exotic uber fast stuff that's crazy expensive but they are not in the same market as Pentax's gear.

I am using B+H for my pricing as it's an excellent baseline.

It's almost impossible to find a new K20D nowadays, even if you did, it will be close to K-7 prices. Instead you might wanna check this thread.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/89029-one-you-woul...r-k-7-k-x.html
You can come and have a look over here. About US$1200 for a K20D and US$1800 for a K7. With those prices I guess stocks do last. On the other hand, Pentax lenses seem to be relatively cheap (I paid US$1000 for a FA31LTD last month).

By the way, did anybody notice that the starting post is over 6 months old

I use Foto Koch Germany - and "that's not true at all", is a wholly inadequate accusation.
I have given price examples from one of the cheaper sources over here and they sure differ from B&H, as do the Pentax prices.

The Oly 50/2 is 499 Euros, the Pentax 50/2.8 is 479 Euros
etc.

But this comparisson leaves a lot to be desired, as there are very few lenses directly comparable between Oly and Pentax. The Pentax line-up includes the excellent Limited series, there is no equal in primes in the OLy line-up. On the othder hand the DA* series are very good quality but nor really fast lenses, wheras Oly top lenses are very fast glass, mostly - but then cost a lot more than Pentax. That's what I wrote above and I cannot see, what's wrong with this generalization.

With a credit card and a free paypal account, prices are equal to cheapest place on the earth. God bless globalization. Only drawback is you have to put up with only one year international warranty + customs charges which is practically none to me.

they are not expensive and they are also a minority just like Pentax, except that Pentax is running 3rd or 4th or atleast ahead of Oly. I do somehow like their E-3 and E-30 though. and hoping that they would make an FF body or a highly advanced APS-C body. all for the sake of using a Sigma 150.

I have to investigate one day, but rumours go that total customs, VAT etc charges are about 40%; not to mention shipping costs. I know, it's bad to follow rumours, but if that figure is correct I can just as well go to the local shops.

And I'm a strong believer in supporting the local shops where I can hold and play with the camera of choice, just pop in for a chat with similar minded people and easily return a defective product etc. I know it's more expensive and there are limits on what I'm willing to pay / can afford so I either save up a longer or decide not to buy at all.
