K7 arrived today....my first impressions...

Well my first impressions of my first PENTAX camera are...AWESOME!!!!!!!!

First of all its TINY... it makes my old GX20 feel like an unwieldy brick!
the next thing i noticed was the AF...I shoot mainly birds in flight - and combined with my sigma 150-500mm hsm it locks on to the subject very quickly and accurately..very satisfying.
Then i tried the shutter...wow!!the sniper in the bushes sound of the samsung is replaced by a whisper quiet click - an absolute boon for someone who has to keep as quiet as possible when in the field.
The 5.2 frames per seconds brilliant speed actually made me laugh out loud when i first tried it...my friend has a Nikon and i was always envious of his FPS...not any more!!
The display is just fantastic...so clear and easy to understand..also the image display is just phenomenal..
Finally the image quality...well the weather was a little overcast - but I believe its a pretty big jump ahead compared to my GX20...a bright day and a few interesting birds will tell me more though...but the signs are encouraging..
One thing I dont like is the software - after being used to my Samsung raw converter I find the K7 stuff pretty complicated...Does anyone know if I can use Samsung Raw converter with the K7?
One other thing...probably new buyer paranoia this but...what is the small clunk you hear just after the shutter clicks??my samsung did this as well although much more noisily - you hear a similar noise when using the HD movie or live-view modes...does anyone know...is it normal? reassure me please!
I'm afraid I have only been using a DSLR for a year and still have a helluva lot to learn!!

You should be able to use any raw converter software you like, you might have to set the camera to record in the 2nd raw format type though id say the samsung would work by default.

The clunk sound you hear is the pixies in the darkroom inside the camera doing their thing. (in other words no idea!)

I like these 'first impressions' threads

I would hazard a guess that the thunk is the shake reduction pixies spinning their abacus

In regards to that clunk sound, I'm guessing your camera was set to continuous shooting and not single frame shooting. I noticed that if you use Continuous Shooting, you will hear the clunk once you let go of the shutter button.

Thanks guys...I was hoping it was either the I.S or the camera writing the image to the card,,, or something along those lines anyway!!!!

Yes, the carriage return of the tiny typewriter writing to the SD card. But I'd go with the IS or autofocus mechanism.

Your comments make me want to buy a K-7. Waiting for more money to come in.

Save those pennies Gfmucci its worth it
For anyone who is interested - the samsung raw converter is actually incompatible with the K7 dng files...I have got silkypix pro studio on trial at the moment and it works like a charm...buying it after spending 1K on the k7 may be an issue though!
