Nice samples. Good colour and detail retention even at ultra-ISO. The K-x certainly seems to have the goods.

Since there is no EXIF info here, it would be useful to know what were your JPG record mode settings for high-ISO NR, as well as your Custom Image settings (Bright, Natural etc - for hue, saturation, sharpness, contrast etc)?

1. I don't care high ISO, can you download PEF files with good light outdoor at ISO100-400?
2. what about speed in RAW? after 5 shots in RAW - what then?
how long to wait for the buffer to clear before you can burst again?
3. what batteries do you use?

That 12800 and all these high iso shots are mighty impressive. I hate to say it, but it looks like the K-7 is not going to fare well with high iso compared to this. Thanks for sharing.

I saw some more test shots of the K-x and that highly questions whether I should buy a K-7 now or wait because with the IQ of the K-x, it definitely beats the K-7 without a doubt; and what's worse is the K-x is twice as much cheaper also. I'll probably just wait for one more month and see if the K-7's pricing will go down because of this or if Pentax will release another model using the same K-x sensor or even better for their K200D replacement that actually has top LCD, weather seals, AF points in VF, and much more that will match more of the K-7.

3200 ISO from K-x

High ISO Noise performance is pretty impressive no doubt. but softy IQ and the 2+MP difference is quite a big issue as well. if you're purpose is to shoot under lowlight more often and don't care much about sharpness, the k-x is the way to go. but I would highly argue that it is better than the K-7 image-wise. there are several reasons for the price difference, and that is only two of those other reasons.

I'm assuming the K-x has no mic input, but can anyone confirm this?

Correct, either you have mono sound or you do higher quality external recording.

12.800ISO looks stunning. They could've made 25.600 available as well by the looks of it.

Looks like a lot of luma NR, a fair bit of low frequency chroma noise left over...I don't know that it's better than the K7 examples I've seen, my guess is NR is cranked to show less noise in jpg straight from the cam...similar processing to P&S images.

Overall I say kudos to Pentax for making the best bang for buck DSLRs out there.

This seems like a very very nice personal use camera that can double as a utilitary pro camera on the side.

Though both this and the K-7 are missing some video features like manual controls and 1080P and a mic input for the K-x, but no one else has such performance for their price points, so you can't complain too much, though it's tough, because you know Pentax will just release a new camera in a year or two most likely...I just love the built in IS/SR feature saving you cash on lenses.

check out the comparison images with NR off:

Now, whether or not off means off now is something different, but the high iso detail retention looks pretty good to me.

K-x does not have the per lens autofocus correction - sure wish it did though
