GodonBGood: Pentax K-x high ISO best of any Pentax camera ever

(A little bit of a cross-post here, but I thought I'd highlight this in its own thread).

Just in case anyone missed it, after studying the K-x's RAW files, dpreview forum's pentax guru GordonBGood says:

4) This is the very best high ISO performance of any camera Pentax has produced to date, matching or exceeding any of the Nikon models including the D300 and D300s. This was never really a problem with even the K20D and K-7 in that they likely match most competitors high ISO performance with just a little touch of Noise Reduction (NR), but this K-x appears to match or exceed other competitors without any NR or with very very little, just as those competitors may apply.

With the K-x and its new source of CMOS sensor, that [poor dynamic range of the K20D and K7] problem has gone away, with the K-x having about a 12 to 13 stops of DR at base ISO of ISO 200 as per the way DR is measured by DxOMark, and still has a 10 stop DR at ISO 1600 and a 8 stop DR even at ISO 12800..

Looks like that sensor may have a future in other Pentax bodies ...

Awesome, now I will have to blame my crappy images on something else when my K-x gets here. Wait, why hasn't the white K-x shipped yet???

He's camparing RAW files in RawTherapee which has absolutely no NR at 0 NR (unlike other RAW converters).

However, I am positive that K-x's in-body NR is better than K-7's too, and I hope they update the K-7 with that.

I personally can't wait to pair the K-x up with my FA 50 1.4 at night around town, or at a gig or club. Should be able to practically see and shoot in the dark, whilst holding onto decent IQ. With luck that might be able to happen this weekend.

Should be a big improvement over my K200D in the role of after-dark shooter, I hope.

Thanks Pentax... will buy upgrade once Christmas hits and K100D becomes the IR shooter Hopefully price discrepancy isnt too high online vs stores. Would like to support my local store for once.

Hopefully that Yellow one will come down in price as well but not counting on it... Will get the red one probably then

Video with taks will be soooooo fun.
