$643 is a great price, but you have to wait 2 months for it.

I heard someone complained about the "noise" cause by the K-7. Can someone explain or verify this info for me plz ?

@pakuchn: ya, I just checked it and it said " ... 1-2 months". No thanks, I would pick the K-7 in stead

there are a lot of threads started concerning the K-7 noise. the question is, is it really a problem or is there really to complain about? how often do you use or shoot beyond ISO 3200? as far my experience shooting the K-7, I have no problem shooting with it at ISO3200. but honestly speaking, I rarely go beyond ISO800. I only shoot at ISO1600 (which shows very nice results) a couple of few times, and only used ISO3200 (need some photography techniques in avoiding destructive noise) in concert events or very lowlight situations which is not very often and only 10% of my actual use.

btw, here is an example of a shot done at ISO3200 w/o noise reduction. if the result here doesn't satisfy you or if there is really a problematic noise to complain about, then buy the k-x. otherwise, the K-7 will do just fine at that ISO range.

also, check the other threads about HIGH ISO shots. there are a lot of examples that show great images at HIGH ISO. at the end of the day, it would depend upon you as a photographer on how to produce such images.

So when you shoot indoors, with low light, such as dinner event, holidays, etc. what is the ISO that you use?

people must not forget that there is a flash and a diffuser. given the choice of selecting between ISO100/200 image results versus ISO 3200 image results, I would choose the images produced in ISO100/200 any day.

the Metz 58, the Metz 15 Macro and the built-in flash. I use fill-in flash, diffuser, bounce flash, if when necessary. as I said I rarely used shooting above ISO 800 for my needs. but shooting at ISO1600 and ISO 3200 (with or without flash) would be ok if I needed to. when the need to shoot past ISO3200, let's say ISO6400/12,800, that would be the only time that I would need to buy something good at those HIGH ISO range. as of the moment, I don't have the need for it. besides, the lack of controls, features and other specs and capabilities of the k-x is very limiting to my needs.

will a hybrid between the K-7's features and capabilities + High ISO capability of the k-x be good or worth 1200? Yes, it is good but not worth of an upgrade from the K-7 as High ISO doesn't meet my real need for a FF camera. what I need is of wider FOV and thin DOF. the High ISO is just an extra gravy.

You can pick the same kit with just only $643 from Amazon.
I saw old links to that deal that had expired, but I searched the site and couldn't find it for less than $843. I've already bought, but have you checked to see if that deal is still active?

That is a very good deal. What flash do you own?
I have a lot of flashes. The two Pentax flashes are the AF540FGZ and the AF400T. I may pick up an AF360FGZ to round out the compact package, but for a traveling camera, the high ISO capabilities of the K-x, may keep me from having to schlepp a flash around as much.

Thanks. That 1-2 months is often on Amazon items that are out of stock and will never be in stock again. I remember the Nikon Coolscan 9000 being offered on that basis after (I believe) it has been discontinued. Amazon.com: Nikon Super CoolScan 9000 ED Film Scanner: Office Products

Yeah, I doubt that they may not have them in stock again or take more than 2 months ... That's the reason why I ordered the K-7 instead ($980 after rebate is not too bad for a new start --> I am newbie)

So basically, in terms of noise the k-x is the better camera for high iso settings?

How much does a k-7 go for?
