Hoya/Pentax a done deal and 50th Special Camera

According to reliably quoted sources at dpreview, the Pentax/Hoya deal is completed. There is also an announcement about a 50th Anniversary Pentax Special DSLR—too bad it's just a concept camera and not the real thing! It's retro sharp! I'd buy one in a heartbeat, even if the specs were identical to my K10D!

Personally I think Pentax should make the camera, although in limited quantities. Then sponsor a contest and give them away as prizes. And I do like the look. I just hope this wasn't one of the new D-SLR's they were working on that we've been hearing about since PMA!!

Yes! Just build a batch of 5000, sell around $us1000 each, and once they're gone, they're gone.

I agree with Richard Day. Bring out stuff to fill the holes in the system.
1. 200 macro
2. P-ttl ringlight
3. Teleconverters that work with af and SR
4. BIGGER lenses than 300mm. Some kind of 100-400 zoom.
5. 400 & 600 primes
6. 70-210 2.8
7. extension tube with rotating tripod mount
8. New 300 zoom with quick focus (the J is long in tooth)
9. wide tilt & shift lens
thanks
barondla
This doesn't mean they can't bring out the K1D

I second the motion

Most of the things on Barondia's list are on my wish list. Now if Mr. Brown would just bring me my K10D, I could get on with life.

My main request is to stop trying to bring out '35mm equivalent' focal lengths. There is nothing more ridiculous than complaining about people wanting 'full frame' when you're developing lenses that are 1/1.5 direct descendents.

In other words, bring out the lenses from barondla above.

Can I also request a better manual focus focus screen?

I agree, we have a 50-135 coming, for instance, so why do we need a 70-210? But Richard is right, lets get those lenses and accessories to dealers. The major complaint I hear about Pentax is the lack of lenses and accessories and I agree.

I did read somewhere that we can expect a new lens roadmap with a plethora of new lenses this September. Right now I am waiting patiently for my new DA* 16-50 and 50-135 both on preorder and due the end of July.

Cheers, Mike.

You are spot on. The wide T&S lens is almost a must for me, the 200mm marcro would be great, a 70-210mm would be very nice !!!!

Right on. Hoya/Pentax now needs to get on with running a real camera business instead of doing it as a hobby.
