Old lens compatible with K2000?

Hello! I am looking at buying a new camara. I am not very camera suave, so please bestow your knowledge upon me.

In 1999 I bought a pentax mz-50. It has a sigma 28-200mm aspherical lens on it. The lens has automatic focus.

I am looking into buying a pentax k2000.

This is my question: will my old lens be compatible with the new camera? Will it fit and still autofocus and do all the things the lens should do?

Thanks for any advise or comments!

Sure, any AF lens for Pentax will work. Any MF lens for Pentax will work too, but will still be an MF lens.

You'd be amazed at the backwards compatibility of Pentax. This photo, for instance, was shot with a 50 year old Pentax lens on a one year old Pentax digital SLR:

The only thing you have to be careful of is third-party lenses which are marked as being for Pentax or Ricoh cameras. Some of them have bits which can get stuck on the modern bodies and make them damned near impossible to remove from the camera. Other than that, you're golden.

Yep, the dreaded "Ricoh pin"....

OP: Removing this pin isn't difficult. I did it on a Sears lens. It only took a few minutes. Search the board and you will find info and links with directions.
