Welcome to the Pentax forums.

It's a good deal. The camera is great and the lenses are too. The Pentax kit lenses are amongst the best when it comes to kit lenses from any manufacturer. The 18-55 that comes with the K-x is very sharp and useful, as you can see from some of the sample K-x images around this forum and elsewhere.

The K-x kit lenses are just lighter (and sometimes more colorful) versions of standard Pentax lenses, so you miss out on nothing in terms of image quality from them.

If you are anxious about the quality of the 18-55mm in particular, a very positive recent review of the sister lens to this exact model is here:

Well if I were you I would pay $100 more for the Amazon 55-300 deal. It's a much better lens than the 50-200.

Yea I was just looking at the deal......

I wonder how long till it comes out. I guess I'll submit an order for it and see what happens.

It's actually 120 more - how is it "a much better lens" ?

A couple of benefits to the 55-300 are longer reach, better image quality including sharper images with the aperture wide open, and also retaining approx f4.5 through about 200mm. But, the 50-200 is a nice starter/kit lens as well, you won't find too many complaints about it around here. And that was a great deal, especially with the sling bag they are offering as well! I assume you did the bing cashback to get about $13 off? Congrats on the purchase, and welcome!

But the 50-200 is an excellent lens too; don't worry too much that for $X more you could have gotten a better one. The same is true of virtually every lens you ever buy, excellent maybe a couple of lens costing the better part of $1000 or even more that are as good as it gets.
