K10D with short, loose wrist strap just in case - haven't dropped it yet. Carry in my hand when in shooting mode and drop in my waist bag when not. I don't like having anything hanging around my neck.

Strap on - around neck and under armpit - all times.

I keep my camera tethered to a strap of modest length until within the confines of an open area such as a park, at which time I let her wander freely. Never have encountered a problem yet, as she readily responds to my commands and whistled prompts.

I use an R-strap. Keeps the camera handy and available at a moment's notice while leaving both hands free when I'm not actively taking a shot. I could not be happier with it, I don't have to worry about transitioning from wrist to neck between shooting/traveling, the camera is always secure.

Also helps me avoid looking like a plastic-and-metal alien is bursting out of my chest when carrying :P

I've dumped Pentax's "hippie-style" standard strap, switched to the far more secure and much less bulky strap from UPstrap Professional Non Slip Camera Straps. My camera usually hangs from my shoulder. I don't do grab-shots so I don't need fast access, and it's not a view camera so I rarely use tripod.

My solution was to take the pentax strap off and add a homemade strap made out of paracord. Thinner, the length I want and it is far more maneuverable since I like to wrap it around my wrist most of the time.

So yes I use my camera strap.

okay so I went out shooting today and realized what everyone is talking about sometimes you just don't feel safe in some situations. where can you find a wrist band like you have?
Google for "Gordy's straps"!

as for me it's as follows:

1 camera day: generally in it's bag, if it's not in it's bag then it's in my hand - occasionally it gets the over-the-shoulder treatment.

2 camera day: one around my neck, one in my hand. Bag over my shoulder for lenses. Only gets messy when you have flashes attached and you're in a crowded space and you want to change lenses in about a millisecond. For me that only happens when I'm working and in those cases one just deals with it.

My principle is if you're going to have a camera out then you may as well have it ready. I find 'hanging from the neck' too slow for grabshots - it's either got to be in your hand already or it's too late.

I use a Hakuba hand strap. It's really comfortable but can get in the way if I want to shoot vertically. I usually carry the original pentax necj strap in my bad just in case I need to use my hands.

The camera with this lens on is quite front-heavy, and the whole thing tipped forward from the tripod.
That is one of the reasons I don't see the tiny K7 form factor as being beneficial; a larger heavier camera that is better balanced with the lens on it is actually less tiring, since you're not constantly struggling to keep it from drooping.

When one carries a camera like this young lady in Tokyo, it ceases being a preventative measure against dropping the camera and turns into an insidious device waiting for a chance to snag on something and forcefully snatch the camera out of your hand and send it crashing to the pavement.
ROTFLMAO - great description.

can't vote, I use both because I have problems with my hands so I need the safety net of the hand strap to go with the neck strap.

I've been using a hand strap for a few years, and I've just ordered a replacement from Camdapter.
