I've attached swivel clips at the ends of the neckstrap and a triangular split ring on the left side strap attachment point. I can attach both ends of the neckstrap to the ring, and the camera hangs left side up.

If you want to be able to use the neckstrap with the camera hanging normally, you need to install another split ring along with the grip strap on the right strap notch, then you can attach one of the clips without having to take the grip strap off.
Thanks Scott. That's where I'm headed too. I already bought the clips (not as nice as yours) but so far I haven't found split rings that are thin enough to fit in the camera brackets yet wide enough for the strap.

Hi Dan,

I got some heavy duty round split rings at a fishing tackle shop. They were specifically meant to be used to join large terminal tackle for Northerns and Musky. I would think that this might be a good source in your neck of the woods. It's possible that the triangular rings might be used in some camping equipment.

I occasionally have it around my neck, if I'm taking a short break from active shooting. If I'm actually engaged in making photos though, I have the neck strap wrapped around my wrist a few times.

I have caught a falling camera by the neck strap once before. I almost always have it around either my wrist or my neck.

Still using the original neck strap that came with the K10D. I used to use an OP/TECH neoprene strap and miss it:

will have to pick up one of them again sometime. They are pretty comfy, IMO...

No strap for me

I nevuh, evuh use a strap. A good shoulder bag (Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home), tripod, or nothing. It gets in the way.

I use the neoprene strap from ebay with my bigger setup. Cheap and good.

For my Kx w limited lens, usually I use a grip strap instead.

Straps

Always use neck strap, been electrician for 34 years, you work high, everything
has a lanyard on it. guess its force of habit with this hobby of mine.
Echo BobRad's sentiment, it comes out of the bag, it's tied on.
Weight of K20 + 300mm f/4 + shoulder stock = nothing compared to the tools that I
wear.

I use the strap for the K20d and K10d, but not for the K-x or K100d. The smaller, lighter bodies lend themselves to a quick draw from a waistpack or large coat pocket. The neck strap would just get in the way. I could use a nice wrist strap, though.

I agree. I have a neck strap on my K20D and a wrist strap on my K-x.

Boy, I sure do, and I put it around my neck when I want to be triple sure not to drop it down a mountainside or over the water.

I also keep a little lens cloth from Bass Pro (made for cleaning scope lenses) and my remote (in a thumb drive case) clipped to the strap at all times.

Ever since I dropped my Olympus OM2 into a creek in New Zealand thirty years ago because I did not have the strap around my neck, I have used a strap. At least in my outdoor photo work. Cheers.

The camera bounced

This tale goes way, way back -- about the mid-50s. I had my Rolleiflex F:2.8 twin lens reflex on a tripod, setting on a sidewalk. When I went to remove the camera, it slipped from my hands and fell four feet to the cement. It bounced once and lay quiet. It suffered a dent in one corner of the metal trim, but still worked perfectly. As a result of that near disaster, when removing a camera from a tripod I now first slip the strap over my head. And, when I lay a camera on a table or bench, I make sure the strap does not loop over the edge.

Bought the daughter a K-x for Christmas...as you do.
First thing she did before turning it on was to fit the strap
Then she spotted my retro strap and got that too for the bag
She enjoys envious stares from Canikonians
