KX vs. K7 Shutter Noise

How much difference is there in the shutter noise between the K7 & KX?Just bought a KX and the shutter is quite loud.It is a little quirk but if the K7 price comes closer to the KX,well,I dunno.

K7 is DEFINITELY quieter...

I found the K-x to be noiser than the K10D and K20D even.

K-7 is way quieter.

K-x is louder than the K2000 because it has 2 holes at the top left of the body. This mostly makes it louder for those behind the camera and to the left, but not so much for the subject in my experience. I believe the holes are for a louder focus beep and movie playback sound - I am thankful for that, personally.

Yeah, it's a little on the loud side, especially with a lightweight plasticy lens on the front, but I've been too excited about taking sharp, clean handheld pics at night to notice it until you asked just now.

I found this video on Youtube that shows comparison of K2000 and K-7. I'm pretty sure K-x will be similar to K2000.

YouTube - Shutter K7 v K2000

In this video, it makes it seem like the K-7 is as loud as the K2000 or even louder. But I used to own both and the K2000 is about 5x louder than the K-7, the K-7 almost sounds like it's whispering it's shutter sound and the K2000 is trying to scream it.

ledave, someone mentioned that most video cameras automatically amplify quiet sounds in order to make them more audible, so it's entirely possible that the video doesn't accurately convey the difference.

I think one more reason K-x is louder is because it has no seals - and it also has several holes as Eruditass mentioned.
It's not bad, though. Sound is crisp and clear - unlike K10D/K20D, where camera sounded a bit like a box of springs - and more like older film cameras.

Definitely the lack of seals and the 'lightweight unibody polycarbonate injection molded body' allows more sound out. How's that for Apple-style marketing for 'cheap plastic body'? LOL

My old K100D probably had no effort at sound proofing whatsoever. It was excruciatingly loud if shooting beside Canons and Nikons...but I loved the quality of its pictures...
The K-X is better, but not much more in this category...

The K-7 is a much more refined breed, but you pay extra $$ for the privilege....
Anyway, the loudness or otherwise of the shutter/mirror mechanism has no effect whatsoever on image quality....

The K-7 has the quietest and softest shutter sound since the Olympus E-1.

Yes I have. The old Rebels creaked in my hands and was really cheap feeling. The new Rebels are pretty solid though, almost as good as the K-x. I think Canon upped their quality for the Rebel.

The K-x is definitely solidly built, in fact as good as my K10D.

those old rebels are so horrible that it gave me nightmares up to this day. never owned one but used them for try-outs. first impressions were enough to say that those were nothing more but garbage. and they were selling like 300-500 during those days. well, those were 300-500 bucks wasted.

I think when I was getting into dSLR, the Rebel was $800 with kit lenses and the K10D was $800 without. Well, I'm on the Pentax forum now.
