K200D: Problem with manual focus

Morning all. I have a problem with my K200D that I recently bought used. I can't use the MF. AF works fine, but there are occassions, albeit few and far between, when I need to use MF. However, whenever I manually focus the lens, the pic is always out of focus. This happens with every lens. I had lasik a few years ago, so I know it's not my eyes.

I adjusted the diopter adjustment on the top all the way to the right and no improvement. After a bit of research, I found that the diopter adjustment comes in different "sizes," or whatever. Do I need a different diopter adjustment thingy? Where would I get one and how would I know which one to get?

The guy I bought the camera from changed the focus screen to something, and then changed it back when I bought the camera. Could that be the problem? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

TP

Hi, i used a K200 until recently and for MF accuracy I had to have split -image focussing screen and an eyepiece magnifier (O-ME53).
If your vision is "normal" you should be able to use the stock eyepiece diopter.
You can check the Pentax site for accessories or some of the bigger online retailers, your local camera store may be able to order accessories for you too.
I'd suggest doing the brick wall and/or newsprint tests or something similar to help diagnose your issues.
Also, did you turn off the shutter release AF function? Or at least switch the camera to MF? If not, when you press the shutter the camera tries to re-focus.

OK, but are you saying that moving the diopter all the way to the right is the correct setting for you? Do the numbers at the bottom of the viewfinder appear in focus at this setting?

Yes, if he installed the focus screen improperly, that would make MF not work right. I'd let someone else try (and be sure to set the diopter properly for their eyes first).

Note it is normal when shooting at large apertures (f/2.8 and below) for the viewfinder to show more in focus than will be in focus in the picture. But there should be nothing in focus in the picture that was not also in focus in the viewfinder.
