Out of time, had to order a K100D

I've been waiting for Pentax marketing to make a bold move now that the Hoya deal is done. I was positive they would drop the price to boost sales but now it looks like it will be the fall before we see any new pricing or models.

This is a present to a very good friend and need it by the 20th of the month. After a careful analysis of all the budget DSLR's, I am convinced this is by far and away the best buy on the market. Rather then going with the kit lens I am putting a 28mm f2.8, a 50mm f1.4, and a very old 50-200 zoom with it. The lenses are old and picked them up for next to nothing. It's not a bad kit for a first time DSLR user.

Regards,

I believe it is a very good kit for a first time digital SLR user.
...and, in case anyone knowing me reads this, K10D is a very good digital SLR for someone who already has a K100D
Just in case!!!

Its already happened over here. k100d kits have dropped around $200-$250 in the last 2 weeks. A lot of people are convinced that it means that a new model is on the way but retailers have said that its just a drop in retail prices across the board.

Excellent choices Ken. I'm thinking of very close to the same kit for a good friend of mine who is "gradgimacating" (her word) Very creative young woman who likes to go to clubs and take photos of bands. One of her shots actually ended up on the CD of the band. Her kit will include: FA 1.4, the kit lens (because I think it's a damn good lens for the money) and the manual pentax 135 F2.5 along with the K100D. I chose the K100D over everybody else because of in body SR, and cheaper lenses than the Sony/Minolta...it didn't hurt that I'm not a Sony fan.

NaCl(still think that in body SR, and good backwards compatible glass are Pentax's two main selling points)H2O

How much is the body selling for? maybe it hasn't hit the states yet.

Most places are selling them for between $560 and $690 (aussie) for the camera and single lens sigma kit. There is a small kodak shop in the middle of the cbd selling it for $597, that one i do remember because i went in to see what their prices were like.

Prices are going down - I've seen the twin lens kit for less than $700 (was $1,000) when I bought it in January. But the product is still the same - a quality 6Mpix dSLR with a lot to offer. Well worth it regardless of what happens in the future.

K100D + lens prices in UK incl. 17.5% VAT (some stores - SRS prices quoted), body only prices are not generaly available at a lower cost.

K100D + 18-55 - £298
K100D kit (18-55 + 50-200)- £438
K100D kit (18-55 + Tamron 70-300 Di) - £398

The K10D body can be bought for around £540, lens deals also available

There is currently a huge push with the K100D at the moment, it's beginning to even appear at Tesco's (largest UK supermarket chain) at these prices! Without doubt the best value DSLR kit in the UK at the moment.
