And for anyone wondering what prime lens to get first;
go for the FA 50mm f1.4, you're not a Pentaxian till you have one :P With the kx you could shoot in candle light just fine :P
The FA 35/2 AL is also a nice choice. Good focal length for DSLR

I'm brand new here ... however instead of the K-x bringing me here, this forum brought me to the K-x.

Not new to photography or SLRs, but this is my first digital SLR. I just bout it online today and hopefully will receive it on Tuesday next week!
So you came across this forum, and then found out that you wanted the K-x ?

If you can find one, that is, now that it is discontinued. The only current 35mm is the DA 35 mm f/2.8 Limited, which is rather expensive, alas.

Welcome to PentaxForums, fellow Aussie K-x owner.

Hope you enjoy using your new DSLR. It's a bit of a learning curve but despite the 300 page manual the K-x makes it easy, or at least easier, to get going and to produce great images. Were you using a point and shoot before?

The same thing happened with me. I was researching DSLRs and stumbled across this forum researching the K-x.

This forum (along with a couple of Internet reviews) convinced me that the K-x was the way to go.

Mind you, the salesman at the store was trying real hard to sway me to a D90, but I went with the K-x and have no regrets.

I've also been trying to link of PentaxForums from other sites a lot
That's how I found Pentax Forums while researching K-x at DPreview.

Thanks!

K-x is my first DSLR

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I'm coming from a Lumix point and shoot. I was all set 10 days ago to buy a D5000. But the great price of the K-x in Australia, combined with this forum helping me ally my fears about straying from the big names, had me at DCW money in hand taking possession of a new K-x + Sigma 17-70mm for $899. Cool. Some of those K-x kits available locally are really good deals. For example, the Pentax 18-250 sells by itself for over $1100 on DCW, but it's available from DCW with the K-x included for $1239 total. And the Sigma 17-70 is $520 by itself on DCW, so to get it for $899 with the K-x included is also indeed a bargain.

The Sigma 17-70 sounds a good lens. A useful review is here:
Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC (Pentax K) - Review / Test Report
The one-line takeaway from it is: The sweet spot of the lens is at 35mm - the resolution is already evenly high at f/4 and outstanding at f/8.

To new Melbournian Pentaxians, welcome. You may be interested in meeting up with some other Pentax users by checking out DPReview. Search and you will find a thread. The first meeting was last week but hopefully a larger group will meet up sometime soon.

Note: I am not plugging DPReview. It will be great to meet up with some of you guys. Welcome to the club.

I'm new as well. I've been saving for the K-x since it was announced. Always like photography just could never afford anything other then a point and shoot camera.

The K-x will be my first D-SLR, and I can't wait to get it and use it. I bought it yesterday, was flipping thought he TV and ShopNBC had it on for $593, or $118 over 5 months, so I spread it out over 5 months.

Got it in white and can't wait to get it here.

I also came to the forum via a K-x. I owned a an ME Super + 50mm + Tamron zoom + wide angle which I traded in for a Canon slr + AF zoom in mid 1990's.

I have a Canon 50D which I attach to a spotting scope via the eyepiece & a t-adaptor (giving x20 to x66 magnification). Sony & Pentax can both add image stabilisation. Pentax K-x also adds HD video & HDR.

The kit lenses didn't cost much extra & are much better than I expected. I much prefer the lightness plastic brings rather than the perceived quality of metal.

Was about to get a Canon 500D. But while browsing the net, came to find out about the K-X. After numerous nites reading about this camera reviews. Finally, took the jump to get it,

Only came with the Kit lens- 18-55mm though. Was thinking abt the white colour but figured I was too old to stray from the traditional black. ha.ha
