K7 price reduction early 2010..?

Do you think it's likely that the price will drop after Christmas and New Year? I'm looking for a step up from my *ist DL.

Complete speculation on my part, but I'd imagine it will continue to drop very gradually. I don't expect a significant drop unless either a camera which matches much of the main feature set is offered by a competitor at a lower price, or Pentax announces a K-7 replacement. I'd expect that latter circumstance is still a fair way off yet.

It's the same old story with new technology. I paid 1500 UKP for my Olympus E-10 which has been gathering dust since I got the *ist DL. There are more extreme examples with PC hardware!

Thanks for your comments. I think I'll order the K7 body today.

regards Dave.

I am crossing my fingers we will see a little price drop before 2010...hopefully by no later than around the middle of December. It sure would be nice to see the body only at less than $1000...or even $950. What do you think the chances of that happening is?

I gave up on waiting for the price to drop. I ordered it Friday and it arrived Tuesday. My initial reaction? Why did I wait 5 months to order it?! Buy it. You'll love it.

It's kind of already there. Buy the kit for $1100 (Amazon was $1115) and sell the 18-55 WR for $100-125.

Still not quite there yet in Canada, I am still waiting. Meanwhile, my k10D gets maximum usage as it is approaching 2-yr warranty expiry date.

It's $1069 at newegg with the 18-55 WR with the $100 rebate. Possibly squeeze it down to $1019 if you can argue the coupon which ends today. Shipping Extra.

Order it from the states. Our dollars are near parity now, and what you will pay in duty is only equal to what you would pay in sales tax at the price you paid anyway.

Order from the states and save close to $500 versus places like Henry's.

I'll be in the States during all of December...hopefully will buy it at one of the online sources I have used in the past for my camera gear...

No need for the 18-55...I have one already and don't think either version will fetch more than the hassle is worth to list, package, and ship.

Got it today. With the RAW CODEC I downloaded and installed I can now see PEF files in Windows Explorer or Directory Opus etc - but Photoshop CS3 doesn't want to know, nor does the Adobe Photodownloader I use with the Pentax *ist DL.

Reluctantly I changed the file format to JPG having read that the quality is good. Then I found I could use DNG format which is fine because I now edit images just as I did before.

The utility on the CD seemed fine - at first - then crashed every time it was started. I downloaded the upgrade but now I've decided not to try reinstalling the utility software because it's not needed.

I bought mine back at the beginning of Nov. Paid 1049 for the body only. Received next day (love Amazons cheap shipping) and noticed shutter count was at 600 or so shots. Item looked in perfect untouched condition, but decided to shoot off an e-mail to Amazon and ask if I had received a returned item on accident. Right off the bat refunded me $157 and some change, So got me mine for $892

Nice one. :-) Particularly given that 600 shots is within the normal range for testing, so you got a discount for thinking your camera might be second-hand when it was actually new. ;-)

I paid $1,130 body-only for mine after Bing's cashback, back in early September. Also got a couple of lenses with the cashback at the same time, though, so actually saved a fair bit more.

Wow, sounds like you got a steal. I know new K20Ds came with around 300 something shots, so 600 from the factory isn't out of the question I'd say.
