Would you buy it again?

I am planning on purchasing a new K-7 in the month of December (hoping for a Christmas sale price drop) and wanted to pose a question to the K-7 owners. I know human nature tends to dictate a certain amount of fan-boy in all of us and we are biased by our very nature as owners...but I am hoping for some simple answers before I make my purchase and since I respect the overall opinion of the frequent and not so frequented visitors to this forum

If you knew then what you know now about your K-7, would you have bought it or wished you would have waited for the "next" model?

No need to be terribly long winded in your replies, just curiosity for my own sake.

I second this question. Starting point may be interesting, too. For me, it would mean an upgrade from K10d. Before that, the step up was from *IstDs.

Yes. I actually wonder why I waited 5 months to purchase. I'm not sure what the K-7 fuss/disappointment is all about. Yes, the K-X does ISO 3200 and 6400 considerably better. Big deal. Everything else is fantastic. For the amount of time I use anything over ISO 1250/1600 I can live with it. The autofocus is fantastic, the auto white balance is as good as any camera I have ever used (even though I always shoot RAW, it makes a difference in pocessing speed), the build is awesome, as is the user's experience.

I don't own a K7 right now, but I do plan to buy one eventually. I can honestly say that I have never regreted buying a camera, although there have been a couple of times when in hindsight, I wished that I had bought one sooner. The K20 is actually one that I wished I had purchased sooner. I had read a lot of threads about the K20 being about the same as the K10 and complaining about the lack of differences and I thought I would just skip it, but when the price came down enough, I got one. I found the differences to be significant and I wished I had up graded sooner.

I don't understand the focus on high iso noise. You can shoot the K20/7 to iso 1600 without noise reduction and at 3200 with noise reduction. If you really need better than that, you should probably look at full frame.

Absolutely The K7 is a huge improvement over what came before it. I upgraded from a K20 (from which I upgraded from a K10 and an *istD before that).

I had two K10's when the K-7 was released. Sold one K10 and bought the K-7 within day's of release...the extra cost for early adoption was more than worth it to me. I will be selling my second K10 (back-up) to purchase another K-7.

The difference between these two bodies is astounding.

Definitely! i owned a k10, upgraded to k20 and then to k7. thru all of the 'editions' the same questions, comments, complaints have arisen. none stopped my purchases. the pentax line offers tons of lenses and excellent image quality. all 3 cameras have produced income with minimum expenditure and better profit margin.

To put it short: yes. I upgraded from K10 in July , no regrets whatsoever !

Autofocus and Auto White Balance and longer battery life are the three significant improvements I can think of off the top of my head. These all represent a huge improvement over all pentax models that came earlier. In situations where these don't matter I still LOVE to shoot my k20 but the reality is that those improvements are important a lot of the time and made the upgrade entirely worth while in the end for me. I also love the small size - I use it as a second body at weddings with the 43m Ltd and it feels almost pocket size with that setup (I'll never buy the grip for this camera). If this camera had dual SD slots I would happily use it as my primary body at weddings.

I was an early adopter (pre-ordered etc), upgrading from the K10 (pre-ordered that as well, back in 2006) and I would buy a second K-7, if I could afford it.

IQ, etc, aside for a moment: What about the smaller size of the K7? Some of us like the K10 for it's size. Though heavier than some other models, it's actually easy to hold steady in large hands. The K7 seems to move back towards the light and portable point-and- shoot. Anyone else feel this way?

Most definitely. I went from the K20D to the K-7 and I don't regret it at all.
