Kx Thread Index - suggestions needed!

Calling all Kx owners... What do you think about starting a Kx specific thread index? I found the thread index on the motorcycle forum ADVrider was extremely usefull to organize all the fantastic info on one model into one place - so you could quickly reference particular known problems, settings, "farkles" (the motorcycle word for accesorries... no idea where that came from ), etc... Check it out - Orange Crush Thread Index and Links - ADVrider

What I'd like to see is:

**Settings - Basically go one step beyond the manual and get hands on users feedback on what settings & setup works well in the real world.
**"Farkles" (accessories) - focus screens, batteries, remotes, flashes etc
**Common "issues" - like the battery issue some people had experienced
**Hacks - Firmware updates, debug menu, etc. etc.
**Reviews for all the non-believers who havent bought a Kx....YET.

What else would you guys like to see?

This would be a great idea

I'm all for making this thread more visible, perhaps a sticky and/or article later down the road.

Absolutely, stickey would be a must once it builds up a little mass. It will definitely help reduce repeat threads asking the same questions. And from end user experience stand point - saves you the time of having to jump through each "lens & accessories" forum then having to search for Kx using Google Advanced Search (because the in-site search function needs to be 3+ letters).

So Adam, what can I do to help get this going? I'm terrible at spelling, writing, and formatting anything within the v-bulletin system, so I don't think it would look or work any good if handled it . But there's already a good amount of info peppered into the "Pentax DSLR Discussion" forum which we'd need to organize (and maybe trim down) then we can seed new threads to fill in the gaps.

In an ideal world, yes but people are lazy in general. You only have to look at all the M42 lens on K mount threads and we have sticky threads already in place. Having said that, I totally agree that it will be very useful and there are plenty of applications for it in other areas of the forum.

The easiest way to do this and for you to help is to just start a thread called 'K-x Thread Index' and then just start adding links to threads in it. You can be selective and just include ones you think may be useful in the future. It may be a bit more basic than you were thinking but it's workable. If others add to the list via post, you can just copy the links into the thread starter.
Let me know if you start a thread and I'll stick it

How about subfourums for different Pentax cameras, so people can focus on the model they own. (Pun intended.)

We've probably got too many forums as it is, we won't be doing that.

Fair enough... I'm traveling right now and just got my Kx 3 days ago, so not planning on being in front of the computer very much till next week.

For now - everyone please keep posting suggestions and we'll get the party started next week.

I would start by saying do not buy this camera. I have had mine for 3 months and it stopped working. Sent it in for repair and found the PCB board was not working. The cost to me would be $228. Not covered under the warranty. Junk camera and junk warranty. This is my second Pantax and my last. My first one was made in 1972. This one is way better,it works

I've had mine over a year and not one single problem. A great camera. Exceeded only by my K-5.

This is not to discuss camera problems, but to extend a great idea to make the site a lot more friendly.

I will agreed with an Index, it will help us all, to find the information we are looking for, and not to double post.

I'm glad to see no one has said it's a discontinued camera......

So in the spirit of cooperation - and perhaps a little self-serving -
here's one offering -

Kx in Use ( 1 2 3 ... Last Page)

It is now mostly me talking to myself -
but it has 178 posts on 12 pages, and has had over 34,000 views......
mostly about shooting in close to ridiculously dark conditions -
like ISO5000, f/3.5 @ 1/4 sec -
which is actually below the limits of the K-x metering and AF system -
there are plenty of photo examples.
