A week or two ago I bought a set of "Rayovac 4.0" Ni-MH rechargeables advertised as being particularly good in digital cameras. I charged them up, set the K-x to Ni-MH, popped them in and turned it on with the lens disengaged to "trick the camera." No matter what I did, the battery meter read empty. I pulled them out and stuck them on a shelf where they've been sitting ever since.

After updating my firmware just now, I popped them back in the camera and the meter reads green. You can call me a happy customer.
good to hear! i have two sets of rayovac 4.0's on the way! HA! i do have two sets of brand new eneloops too.

It's not much trouble and it fixes some potential problems. So yes, it's worth it.
Thanks,
... wondering as well: if the new version 1.01 causes bugs, can one switch back to the original version?
I am paranoid, sorry.

Just received my K-x in the mail today, very excited. Started taking pictures and messing around and within a hour it was telling me the batteries were depleted. Sigh....So I got on here to read about the battery fixes and found out that there was a firmware update. So I installed it and BAM no more problems. Now I am a very very happy new K-x owner.

There has been no 1.0 file released, so unless Pentax releases one... no.

Btw, in your original post you said K-7... did you mean K-x? I was a little confused by that.

Excellent. I just bought a K-x for my wife for Christmas. I had some concerns about the battery issue, but this will fix it. Thanks, Pentax. (By the way, it is really a cool little camera. It just arrived today from B&H.)

A couple things I noticed - Contrast Detect AF is now much faster - before it used to go beyond "in focus" focus to nearly the other end, before zooming back.

Now it only goes a bit past "in focus" then snaps back!

In phase-detect AF LV, when in AF-C, it no longer flips the mirror like 2 times to take a picture, only flips it once like it should.

I will update my wishlist thread.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/79015-k-x-firmware-wishlist.html

As for batteries, my 5+ year old energizer 2650 batteries are red in auto mode but can take pictures, use LV, and video fine while staying red. When in NiMH mode, they are green.

Seriously, the placebo effect is real, especially if you describe in detail the difference.

My personal experience with "placebo", I get a slight rush for a while until I have a mysterious "crash". Is that fake?

Had some 10yo 1700 Nimh batteries that wouldn't turn on the camera AT ALL. After updating to the new firmware, the camera wakes up with orange battery indicator. I think it is safe to say that Pentax has permanently fixed this battery problem.

Their unpacker doesn't work under Windows 7, both 32 and 64 bit.
Wonder why they couldn't just put out a Zip file - especially since that's just what their "Mac" download is. Anyway, just wanted to say, updating now...

Yeah, just download the mac version. The two format download is one of the stupidest things I've seen in a while for software distribution. I guess certain people need work to keep the economy going.

I used winrar to extract the exe myself by right clicking.

I believe free 7-zip will do the same which is a great unzipping tool.

I'm using win 7 64 bit and it worked for me... just saying... might be a singular issue here.

Like another poster, I'm also on Win 7 64bit, main and only user account, worked fine.

Double clicking the .exe file I got the standard user account control window asking if I want to run it. Then after selecting yes, I get a extractor window with install directory.

Worked fine for me in Win7 32 bit - run as administrator.

Didn't have battery issues with my Eneloops or Hybrios, but can confirm that some old 1600mah NiMhs that wouldn't power the K-x before now are at least able to wake it up.
