Sorry for the late reply. I've been travelling.

My Tamron lens is manual focus using a dumb KM adaptor. I was just posting to add a counter-example to the theory that a fixed maximum aperture was the cause of your problems.

Perhaps there is a compatibility problem with your specific AF lens. (I haven't heard of that before, but I'm a DSLR newb. It sounds plausible.)

Hi OutOfFocus,

Thanks for the reply. I am still waiting for TAMRON's reply; already 3-4 days, I hope there would be a resolution.

I upgraded to 1.01 with this lens mounted. I have had no problems what so ever...

Dear Mr.Turnip,

Thanks for your info. In that case, I think I have to check my Pentax Kx body. However, I'd just bought it for 3 months. If it was crashed, I feel really bad.

Good news: my Pentax Kx (firmware 1.01) was checked normal and fully functional on Tamron len SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical [IF] MACRO (Model A09), Pentax len smcP-DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED/AL [IF] SDM Wide-Angle Zoom Auto-Focus & Pentax len smcP-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited Medium Telephoto Auto-Focus

Bad news: incompatible with Tamron len SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] (Model A16)

henrywmk -

don't you think it's weird that Mr. Turnip has no problems using the exact same model of lens on his K-x?

Dear UnknownVT,

Thanks for your comment...Actually, not sure and no idea.

Anyway, it's a good news for me that I can assure the functionality of my Pentax Kx. I'm now looking for other alternatives (such as Sigma) to see whether there was compatibility issue. News and updates will be posted in here for reference.

It is indeed very good news that you are assured of the functionality of your K-x.

In which case there has to be an issue with the Tamron lens -
since Mr. Turnip's exact same lens seems to work fine on his K-x (FW1.01)?

Just to confirm...I have had absolutely no problems with this lens, during either before, under, or after the firmware upgrade:

I unpacked the camera. Mounted the Tamron 17-50mm, played around with the camera (mostly checking for front/back-focus), and within 15 minutes, I upgraded the firmware (I had read about it, and prepared prior to purchase). The kit lens remains unpacked, so I'm absolutely sure that the Tamron was mounted during the upgrade.

My lens:
AF17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF); Tamron USA, Inc.

The exact firmware I downloaded:

Dear Mr. Tunrip & UnknownVT,

Thank you both of your help. What can I say!!! I guess I was the only unlucky guy in this case...or may be the K-mount (K, Kf, Ka, Kaf, Kaf2...) bundled on Tamron lens are not the same in different countries. As you may know, mount model would cause different effects on camera. Anyway, news about my testing on other 3rd party lens will be notified to you both asap.

Dear all,

Just bought Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC MACRO and feel extremely good on Kx body (v1.01 firmware). No more trouble was found like Tamron A16 model. I'll go ahead to enjoy photo shooting with my family.

Btw, thanks to all of you especially OutOfFocus, Turnip and UnknownVT.

Best Regards,
Henry from Hong Kong
