Hello all,

New Pentax K-X owner here. Also my first DSLR. Very happy with it so far apart from the battery issues.

I found the link for the firmware on the Japanese site.

Good news about the battery stuff.

Weird about the Cross Processing features being added in the firmware though. I mean, who uses Cross Processing?

Oh well, it's good to see the firmware being actively maintained. I hope Pentax keep it up.

What are you able to do in the Debug Menu?

Just did the update no hassles.

Used new eneloops straight out of pack just in case. As the readme.txt says, took about 2 minutes to complete.

Whatever changes they made, they are very subtle. I don't notice anything vastly different so far.

Although I do get the feeling that the battery meter is now a bit harder to fool - with my original eneloops (not the new ones), it now shows them as orange, and no tricks (switching to LV, MF/AF toggling, switching the camera ON/OFF) can persuade the camera that the meter should read green anymore, even though that's what they were reading before I pulled them out prior to the update.

Will need more time to properly assess what this firmware update has done to battery metering and other things, I guess.

Didn't check the debug menu stuff.

Updated the firmware on my camera.. luckily got a good test case for batteries also.
1. As per instructions I put in a new set of recharged batteries before update.
2. Switched the camera on.. and camera shows red indicator for new batteries and after few seconds batteries depleted.
3. Put in another set of recharged batteries.. these worked ok. Now the indicator is green.
4. Updated the firmware to 1.01
5. Then switched the batters to the ones from step 1, this time they worked good. They show green instead of red.

Also checked with old set of duracell batteries.. they were not powering up Kx before.. now the camera works with them... cool.

So I am assuming battery issue got fixed.

- Cross processing.. I think instead of just random before.. now we can set to a preset and limit the colors for processing.

From a K-x blurb:

QuoteQuote:
(2) Cross process mode
The K-x features the new cross process mode, in which the camera automatically and randomly shifts photographic parameters for each exposure to create eyecatching images with unique, fanciful colours - just like pictures treated with the cross process*** in film photography.

*** A film development technique that takes advantage of unconventional film developers to create a distinctive finishing touch with intriguing colours.
I've never used it since it only applies if you shoot just JPG. I shoot RAW+.

I guess the extra features they've added to this will also require an update to the K-x manual...
