Using k-7 with Pentax-A f1.7 50mm lens

Has anyone found a way to use the old f1.7 standard lens (mine came with my K1000) on a K7 body at anything other than wide open? I have been quite impressed by the results at f1.7 but it would be nice to be able to stop it down occasionally!

I think I have answered my own question. Just set the aperture ring to 'A' and it seems to work fine. Duh!

If it an "A" lens it can be stopped down with the Aperture E dial (eg using AV mode), however if it is a non "A" lens such as older "M" lens you will need to use the Aperture ring & set the camera to "allow use of aperture ring" - see your Pentax user guide.

Hope this helps.

You beat me to it.

If you have set the Aperture ring to A the body should be able to control aperture, guess you can enable custom setting 37 ,Using Aperture ring and just set the ring to what you want.. I haven't one of those lenses myself but I use old totally manual takumars with my k200d with good results..

Thanks for the quick responses. I had found the bit in the manual about enabling the aperture ring and done that, but hadn't realised my 50mm lens was an 'A' lens, as this was not relevant with my K1000. Have taken some more shots with it, stopped down to around f5.6 and am beginning to realise how good this lens is!

The A 50mm f1.7 has become my default lens in my K100DS. It only comes out when I use the M 50mm f1.4. My 2 favorite primes!
