Hey Vincent, just a(nother) note of appreciation for your work.

Every time I see an update from you, I feel guilty about not being more regular, consistent and educated in my shooting.

rawr thank you for your kind compliments -

But I've seen your work - and it is good.

Photography, for me, is not formal or academic
- it's about practice -
I am fortunate I have a lot of convenient opportunities to shoot what I like -
so I get a lot of practice......

but it is still just a hobby
(although in my case it might be close to obsession ).

Thanks

Hi Vincent, I just shot Chickenfoot last week (in very good light) with my K200D and my KX. I still use Daylight or AWB and I have pretty good luck. I think the key is to expose correctly and choose Daylight or AWB. BTW, if you are anything like me, it's an obsession!

Below is a shot with the KX in very poor light but it still did fine considering

KX @ ISO4000

KX ISO 500

K200D @ ISO 1000 (and pushed +1)

K200D @ ISO 800

And the KX in very difficult light at 1/50th @ F2.8 with ISO at 6400

Cool stuff John - thanks for posting -
the very high ISO K-x shots are very impressive.

Well done here too Vincent. The glare from the sun isn't that easy.

Thanks John.

I'm using (tone) Curves a lot more to help with high contrast.
Fortunately in my olde editor Ulead PhotoImpact 8 - has natively Tone Curves.
PS Elements only has an abbreviated version in Highlights/Shadows and levels -
but there is a nice free plug-in SmartCurve

I think PhotoImpact 8 suits me better in the way it pulls up the brightness.
But having said that, SmartCurve has its good points - eg: it can select the setting by clicking on the image.

It just seems to me it may actually be getting darker - last night I had to struggle more just to focus, and often the display in the viewfinder was blinking - indicating the exposure was out of range (...too bright? )

Because of the very high contrast at stage center and subjects wearing hats that put the face in shadow - I've learned to use tone map/curves to prevent totally blowing out the highlights.

as always activity off stage -

doing the reflection in the piano lid thing....
