Who owns an istD

There are so many fora open I'm wondering where to post this. Maybe you should hold back on opening NEW fora. I think it has cought on quite quickly.

How many here own and use the istD as the primary camera of choice?

I've decided to add a Poll and probably have some models missing.

I do. And yes, this is the camera I use the most.

I normally also bring my Optio WPi along - it's so small
that you can always have it with you. It's espicially handy when you
don't want to intimidate people with a big camera or can't carry a big
camera bag (e.g. when invited for a business dinner and such).

I have a D, a DS and a DL. The D is at the Pentax service right now (Hot Pixel mapping) but it normally is my main camera. The shutter is so super smooth compared to that DS and DL "clunk". I love that camera.

I would be intersted in hearing how effective the hot pixel mapping is when you get the camera back.

I'm resorting to shooting in RAW and postprocessing with Photoshop CS2 Camera Raw, which takes care of the hot pixels. But RAW significantly reduces the capacity of the memory cards, so an alternative would be good.

I'll keep you updated when I'll get the camera back. I have been using RAW exclusively so those Hot Pixel weren't really bothersome, but the camera is still under warranty so I decided to send it in to have that fixed and not have to pay for it..

Can I ask: what duration was the warranty on the *istD? Was it an extra on top of the original cost or standard issue?

[...thinking ahead to the likely situation with the K10D in the EU[prob a German e-shop]... while trying not to bore us all with mentioning it again!! lol]

It was exactly 1 year Pentax US Warranty - I bought mine in the first week of September last year when they were hardly available anymore in regular stores.
I still have a an extra 2 years warranty with it (Mack warranty), but I hope I will never have to use that one and I don't know if Hot Pixels would even be covered there.

I recently bought a Pentax *ist DL2 in UK for £349 - a real bargain price! Very pleased with camera - it replaced my Fujifilm Finepix S9500 zoom digicam, which, although quite good, was a little over-rated in my opinion.

I've had 35mm SLR's in the past and find my new DSLR is very easy to use. Went to an airshow recently and took lots of photo's of planes.

I've read on other forums that my camera is not up to action shots - nonsense! It's fantastic when compared to a slow digicam and is about the same as my old Nikon F80. Sometimes I think that we forget just how good the features of new cameras are compared to the "good old days" when we had to do everything manually.

I was considering waiting for the K100D with SR but felt that the extra cost was not justified in my case (I've got a really good tripod for steady shots and this has always served well in the past). The remaining features of the *ist DL2 and the K100D/K110D seem identical.

Might want to re-consider though when K10 is released!

That's funny!

I have a K110D, got a gread deal on the kit for $520 USD. Ironically this is my first camera, I've never owned even a point and shoot before. I want to learn how to use a camera with this one and then may upgrade to the K10Dv.2 if there is such a thing after working out the kinks in the K10Dv.1 if there are any.

Got my camera back yesterday and I must say, Kudos to Pentax Service. They ran this pixel mapping program and also cleaned the dust particles that were in the viewfinder. Look s like a new camera. Nothing was charged for the cleaning.
Great customer service!

My first post! Joined the forum tonight. Love my new *ist DL. Got it as an open box from one of the local big box stores. After I get my $100 rebate back, she'll have only cost me $350!! So glad to be able to get into the DSLR game earlier then expected, due to this low cost. Great camera to start with. I was sold on Pentax after buying my Optio S4 point and shoot a few years ago. It goes with me everywhere, in it's little Altoids tin.

Well, glad to find this resource....now I'm off to read, and figure out what my second lens should be.

Cheers all.
