confused about AF in K7 movie mode

Does anyone have any experience dealing with Autofocus in movie mode? The manual says: "While recording a movie, the autofocus system does not operate." Yet, under the movie settings, under liveview there are three Autofocus modes. They don't seem to be doing much.

Also, the manual says before recording press the AF button. This is a very slow process and not at all in par with the regular AF function. You're better off focusing by hand.

To my knowledge, there is NO AF on video. I don't think any DSLR has this feature.

Sorry bro.

Panasonic GH1 can autofocus continually and silently during video.
Canon 7D can do an obnoxiously slow and noisy slow hunt during video

the K7 original firmware had the slow hunt AF during video, but it was removed for the final production run. I believe this is because Pentax didn't want a crippled autofocus present in it's flagship - they'd rather have none at all.

The autofocus modes you saw are for still shooting using live view, not for movie mode.

You can hit the AF button and focus in movie mode before you start recording...... just like in liveview. (or is it in liveview only... don't remember).

You hit the AF button - the camera will autofocus with the lens. Then you start the movie recording. During the recording, you cannot change the focus.

Its a limitation, but not an unusual one for the current generation of dSLRs, Nikon and Canon included.
In daylight or good lighting, I just set a smaller aperture for deep DOF, so as not to get out-of-focus shots.
