K7 & K10D memory card problem

Has anyone had a memory card error show up in using their K10D and K7? I've used two different class 6 16 gb cards (Patriot and PNY) and both, once inserted into the camera, will not allow themselves to be written to. The camera says there's a memory card error, I can turn the camera off then on and then the cards work just fine. Both cameras have written to cards 4 gb and under with no problems, since I've used the 16 gb cards I have to turn the camera off and on and then it writes with no difficulty.

Have you verified that the switch on the card is set to allow writing to the card?

I'm using 16GB cards wirth my K10D and K-7 - never had a problem.

Yes, the switch is in the write position.

How did you format the card? Using your computer or the camera?

In general it is best to format the card in the device you intend to use it in. In this case, the camera.

My impression is that the cards are losing their integrity or, if new, are unreliable.
Reputable brand named SD cards rarely get these sorts of problems and as such are worth investing in.

I have formatted the cards in-camera. Both card manufacturers are pretty reputable, where I haven't had problems with them before. It has something to do with the camera being off and then being turned on again. I remember with the K10D I shut off the function for the camera to turn off after a certain period of time- and the problem never came back.

I have also had this exact problem with my Patriot 16 GB class 6 cards. Both worked fine initially, but after the first few hundred shots they would not read/write properly with the K10D (K100D super had no issues). I tried formatting the cards with both the camera and my computer to no avail. Eventually I gave up and stopped using them for any time sensitive photography. My Suggestion would be to use either SanDisk or Hoodman cards as they don't seem to have this problem. (I just used my SanDisk Extreme III 16 GB cars to shoot a couple thousand ballet pictures with my K-7 in the last two weeks with no Major issues.)
