How will my new K-7 compare to my Canon 50D?

Well, I sold my one and only Pentax back in 2005 (*ist DS) and wanted a new Pentax for the longest time. So, I finally ordered the Pentax K-7 Kit with lens and one other additional Pentax lens (55-200mm). My big question is how will it stack up against my Canon EOS 50D? I really like my 50D, but I handled a K-7 at one of the camera stores here in Japan, and that is one solid little camera. I also ordered the battery grip that goes with the K-7. What does the K-7 do better than the Canon 50D (if anything)? Any hands on comparison from anyone between the two cameras? Any input and help would be deeply appreciated!

Take Care and May God Bless!

Ed

The 50d is really good no doubt. The build quality just as good as the k-7. But you get weathersealing and HD video as well as the usage of great limited primes.. Also able to use screwdriive lens and older mf ones.

Oh trash did I forget to mention in body image stabilization so all your lenses from the seventies are also stabilized.

To each his own, but this seems slightly presumptuous!

This is about cameras. For Christ's sake... give it a rest.

No offence.

I have used both cameras.

Try shooting an unstabilised (non-IS lens) 300mm telephoto shot in relatively low-light at 1/50 secs shutter speed.

The K-7 will still give you a sharp shot.
You'll get a blurry shot with the Canon 50D.

You started off the right way, Phil. To each his own. Then your post wandered off.

Let's let Ed post his way and you can post yours - about cameras rather than about his sig/beliefs/etc.

I think the big difference in the cameras is the size differential. I know some photographers like huge cameras, but if I am going to be shooting for a couple of hours, smaller is better. Look at getting a prime (one of the DA limiteds) and enjoy the pleasure of shooting.

K7 + da40 (or any of the LTDs) is such a nice small package. Take off teh grip, sling it over your shoulder and go and shoot. It's such a nice small package that is very rugged.

IMO, the color/contrast of the LTD lenses is superb!
