Or you've accidentally set it to the 2 second delay thing...? My first thought was waiting for it to focus.

I use manual focus, not sure about the 2 second delay.

Given that the 16-45 is a constant f4, I don't think it'll do any better than the Sigma 17-70 (speed-wise) in these conditions. FWIW, my Sigma 17-70 has the following f/stop progression:

f2.8 : 17 - 22mm
f3.5 : 23 - 35mm
f4.0 : 36 - 63mm
f4.5 : 64 - 70mm

It is therefore faster than or equal to the 16-45 over the whole range of the latter.

That is very, very, handy to know!

this saves me a lot of work figuring it out.....

Isn't there a setting in the camera that won't let the camera to fire until it is on focus?
is it possible that it will stay on in manual focus, thus not letting the camera to take a picture?
