...click-click-click-click in continous rapid succession regardless of which button i press (shutter or otherwise). seems very odd that i get the same sound whether i press the shutter or the menu button.

any ideas?

this was given to me to resolve

thanks

The obvious first....remove battery and card, unstick butttons, different lens, etc. I would try to start the camera in debug-mode. Not too sure what to do once in there but perhaps that different start-up will re-set the camera.

thanks for the reply. i have done the standard fleet of checks. swapped batteries, lenses (happens even with no lens attached), pressed all buttons, etc.

Sounds like your camera is not alone. There were a couple of K100D's on eBay with the same symptom that went for $102 and $107.

What happens if you hold down the menu button while turning on the camera?

There is a sequence using a SD card with specific command line to enter the service menu. Different models vary slightly but I think one sequence is to leave the memory door open while holding the menu button on start-up. I think it would be worth a try but you would need the info for the 100D from the site I referenced above.
Good luck with whatever you do and Merry X-mas.

Does the mirror do anything?

Does the shutter do anything?

From my experience with film cameras, moving the stopdown lever around up or down usually reset the mirror/shutter and unstuck things.

Its worth a try at least, its already broken so its not like you'll really hurt anything poking around.
