Since not everyone seems to have this problem, maybe a list of some sort with camera serialnr and problem yes/no could give a hint about the problem. Atleast we would find out if it is something that was fixed at a certain time in production, or if it's totaly random.

btw, the current firmware from pentax.jp seems to be "new"
exif is 1.01.00.07.

don't know what the changes are, but the fw is certainly different.

Sorry but they may not be aware of the current "version 1.01" on the Pentax.jp site.

The Japan download now has different checksums - please look at this thread -

Kx 1.01 firmware checksums are different

the Pentax.jp version appears to have changed some time between Dec/3 and Dec/5 from version 1.01.00.05 to version 1.01.00.07
whereas the US version is still 1.01.00.05
I literally just re-downloaded from

.... curious.... wonder if the initial firmware was authored in japan.. and then spread globally after that..... checksum means the same as dimsum to me.... very technical.... but do we know what the difference, if any, this japanese firmware offers/fixes than our current usa release???

I did my own SR test.

I've been reading about this, SR causing blurred images, all over photography forums and decided to do my own test.

Let me make this clear, I am not suggesting that this problem does not exist but I wanted to be sure about my K-x.

I used my 18-55mm kit lens, took more than 100 photos, all .pef, then added +2 stops exposure in lightroom, and finally exported as .jpgs.
I am 99% convinced that my K-x does not produce the blurred images I 've been reading about.
I leave the 1% for further testing (distant object shots).

If you want to take a look I have some shots here:
Picasa Web Albums - foivosloxias - SR TEST

Again I must emphasize that I do not suggest that other people are lying about this. But for me it proves that at least my K-x is not affected.

There can be many reasons for soft images. Being that the speeds mentioned are relatively slow, I would suspect motion blur.
1/50 - 1/160 is slow ?!

good grief I get sharp shots all the time under 1/20 on the K100D
plus I'm old and shake
toughen up
