OK so here is the results

compare *istD, K10D, K10D with *istD focusing screen, and K7D all with the same 50mm F1.4

In reality, the *istD is the champ. Followed by the K10/K20 with an *istD screen.

Thanks for the test!
The K7 is better than K10/K20, but still not good enough.

The screen/metering sensor system is not very well calibrated, it seems.

I'm finding this thread interesting.... I have had the K10d, and have the k20d and K-7. As soon as I received my K-7, I noticed a great improvement in the quality of shots with manual glass.

I would say from my test, and I still need to test about 15 lenses, that above F5.6 there is a 1 stop improvement on the K7 VS K10,

Lowell, have you had the chance to test K10/20 with other screens? Like Katzeye or K3?

Not yet

I have a jinfinance diagonal split image in my K10D and need to check this. Spot metering is no good, but I can do average metering and see what happens.

In principle I sould recheck the K10 with all my lenses to see what happens.

Note every lens seems to be a little different and at one point I had plotted all my lenses out with the K10 and *istD.

I need to re-do the K10 with split image and do more for the K7 but as you can imagine, each lens takes abot 12 shots to characterize. THis takes about 1/2 hour per lens per body

I have been shooting with a Pentax KX K200D, K30 and K7 to date I am still using all. and have many legacy lenses the K7 is awesome with the older lenses I don't shoot much in low light but when I have, setting up with Manual setting on the K7 with proper shutter speed and aperture I can shoot with Low ISO 100 to 400 with Great Images.

This is an incomplete reply as I use the K200D and the Samsung GX20 mostly with manual lenses (these manual lenses are mostly SMCP-M; exception is the M42 screwmount CZJ Flektogon 35/2.4). With an LL-60 screen installed, GX20 gives broadly accurate exposure with manual lenses with some inaccuracy towards aperture extremes. With SMCP-DA lenses, +0.7 exposure compensation is needed to get a reasonably accurate exposure and multi-segment metering works best. In the K200D (not applicable in the present thread), most SMCP-M lenses meter quite accurately though occasionally I have found inconsistent exposure with these lenses, especially at extreme apertures (more so than with the LL-60 screen on the GX20). This is correctable by turning the aperture ring to openi up or close down a few clickstops. With SMCP-DA lenses the K200D underexposes in bright light, reportedly to protect highlights. Metering for both cameras was done with the green button and always in M mode.

2. Though it is convenient to use the SMCP-DA lenses even in M mode, my own preference is to use SMCP-M lenses, even though it means focussing manually and using the green button to stop down and get the shutter speed. The Flektogon requires the additional step of opening up the aperture to focus (so as to see clearly), closing it down to the requisite aperture stop and pressing the green button to get the shutter speed. . The main obstacle is the small APS-C viewfinder and its lack of brightness: it is difficult to see properly, particularly for people nearing their sixties.

@ amontecinos
You need to give a better description of the problems you're experiencing. And maybe it's better to start a new thread.
