D90 and K-x price comparison

Just saw an ad here in Sweden and it turns out the Nikon D90 has plunged in price and now costs about the same as a K-x. Someone is picking a fight. Or how are they matched against each other in the rest of the world?

Hmmm that's a rather tempting price/offer.
I wonder how it measures up against the Kx in terms of SR, ISO and versatility
If it has all that, I'd be tempted to look into one as a manual solution.
That is to say that it can handle a split screen and M42 lenses.

Are you sure about that?

The Nikon D90 is somewhat of a class (and a half) above the K-x -
the Nikon equivalent is probably closer to the D5000 - which is still about US$140 more expensive with their 18-55 kit zoom lens at about US$696 low price from a reputable vendor.....

The lowest price I've seen for the K-x with kit lens from a reputable vendor is US$549......

The Nikon D90 is harder to compare as its kit zoom is 18-125mm a much more expensive lens - but even in its Body Only form - the lowest price I've seen is US$789.....

So if the Nikon D90 has really dropped to the same level as the K-x in Sweden - then
either the Pentax K-x is grossly over-priced -
or you have a real BARGAIN -
don't walk but RUN and buy that Nikon D90......

As UnknownVT said, D90 is more than a class above Kx, and has a superb sensor as well.

And strap Pentax lewnses to it? Then move back to Pentax when they do a deal? Stick with your system.

I gave my opinion as an answer to his or her question, not to one s/he didn't ask. s/he didn't mention anything about systems. maybe s/he doesn't have more than the k10d + kit lens.

The price is for the body only but it is still a 30% drop from one day to the other so it's really tempting. The K-x though is overpriced here (in my opinion) and now so even more.

I'm really waiting for the k7super or k8 or something similar but that might be a long wait, and considering that the D90 now is roughly half the price of a K7...

Gimbal... how many Pentax lenses do you have already? Are you prepared to either give them up and sell all of your Pentax equipment? Or are you prepared to start a second camera/lens system with Nikon? If the answer is yes to either of those questions then, by all means, get the D90 because as good as the K-x is (and it's a great deal here in the U.S.) the D90 really is a class and a half above the K-x. If you want to keep all of your Pentax equipment, you can probably get by with two lenses for the D90 for quite a while.

Sweden is Europe and for Europe, this isn't true. As you can buy (online) from anywhere in EU.

K-x and D5000 are same price and D90 is 40% more expensive (body only prices).

Like in Germany, 465€ for the former and 650€ for the latter, 19% VAT included.

As I said, it seems the K-x is overpriced in Sweden 557€ body only (cheepest mailorder), while the D90 now can be found over the counter for 572€. (Maybe the D90 was overpriced as well so the drop isn't that big compared to the rest of the world)

Anyway, I probably will not jump ship as I have to many Pentax lenses and actually like my K10, (well at least at base ISO). So if I just sit tight and wait maybe a K-7x will surface.

This is much less than the cheapest ebay seller in Europe ... or any other source in Europe FWIW

Maybe, buy a dozen and sell'em over ebay ...

On the other hand, one only seems to be able to buy them in Sweden for that price:

pricerunner.se lists the D90 at Hegethorns Foto AB for 5998,- SKr. But klicking their offer changes the price to 8570,- Skr.

Looks like the Swedish 572€ price never was real.

It was "Expert" that had it, 200 stores in Sweden, so it is a big and respected chain. Apparently (from reading Swedish forums) many people has jumped on it so it was indeed real, but also very limited it seems as the offer has been removed from the expert.se site.

Ah well.

Edit, the offer can still be seen at their site http://www.expert.se/StartPage/StartPage.aspx on the left side of the front page. 5999kr

Ah, thanks.

pricerunner.se linked to them as well, so two chains have run this offer. But the pricerunner.se link now points to page saing "product unavailable".

Must have been a campaign price, now gone. So, the entire topic of this thread is now void

IMHO, all those "special prices" all suck. Then I first visited the US, I learned to grab a voucher at a gaz station before going to Burger King. Much cheaper. In the US, nobody never ever pays the "normal" prize. What a waste of life time, joy and energy... Now, we have the same here in Europe.
