K-x AF after self-timer for Self-portrait

this is the first question that i can't seem to find the answer for
I'm trying to take a self-portrait
but i can't get the focus right

when i press the shutter button it focuses on the background then starts the timer
AF-C and AF-S both do the same thing
i tried MF but i never get my face/head in the same focus zone
catch focus does the same thing - focus then timer

is there a way to get the AF to work after the self-timer countdown finishes?

hope that makes sense

P.S. i just have the K-x and kit lens, no fancy remotes or anything...

No but you can buy an infrared remote and that should work for your intend.

I don't remember the details but in my K-7 alpha test, I believe I reported this behaviour as a bug to Pentax. They never confirmed it as a bug though.

There is no menu setting allowing to focus after the timer elapses -- and such an option would be required because the timer serves as pre-focus MLU feature nobody wants to give up.

I fear you have to buy an IR. And enable AF with remote trigger. Third-party remotes are inexpensive.
