K-x vs. K-7? - Which one... $500 or $1000? Same Features?

K-x vs. K-7? - Which one... $500 or $1000? Same Features?

The K-x is less than 50% than the K-7. About $500 vs. $1000 give or take.

Yet they seem to have very close specs. Obviously the K-x specs are lower, but still very similar.

I already have the K20d, am keeping the K20d - and am looking to upgrade in a 2nd body.

I'm wondering if the k-7 is worth it, or if I should get the K-x to supplement my k20d. If I went with the K-x (if the poll says it's good enough)... the K-x could hold me until the new K-9 comes out next year. (BUT also, I can't have those K-x AA batteries dying on me... so let me know how good the rechargeable AA life is - especially for video and HDR!)

What are the differences between the K-7 and K-x that should draw me to either save $500 or spend $500 more and get one or the other.

I want all the new features... HDR, video, etc. It seems both cameras have them... just wondering which I should get based on quality of those features and the price.

(FYI - I'm keeping my K20d, and getting a second camera above based on your opinions)

Thanks!

Specs are close? Say what now?

These threads are polluting the forum.

True, there are alot of 'this or that' threads popping up. I'm not bothering with a vote, but the K-x makes a great compliment to the K20d; unless you were planning to sell the K20d would lean towards saving $500.

That said, the two cameras (k20 and Kx) are only complimentary - if you need the high end handling, ergonomics and sealing (among other things) in both bodies, the K7 is obviously the only choice.

Would have to agree with the above. The K-x vs. K-7 assertions are misguided.
They're in completely different leagues.
I still voted for the K-x seeing as though you have (and are going to keep) the K20D already. You'll see how different the K-x is to your K20D when you get it...

Get the K-x, Maha powerex 2700MAH batteries, a limited lense and a 540 flash and you are all set.

From what I have read and what I understand is that K-7 has nice features, but remember, at the end, you want quality image, image is the key, and I think that K-x provides better image.

First you were looking at <$300 and now this?

Are you unhappy with the K20D? If you need a backup, I'd go for the similar K10D.

K-x battery life with new firmware is great for me even with video, but I'd rather have batteries and stuff that I can share. This is why I went with K-x to begin with, to share AA's, but you have K20D.

Hahaha, definitely right...guess you can use a forum however you wish. I would just like to know how they figured out how to use the poll function, but not how to change the 'insert-name-here' pre-filled box when they signed up for the site!

I'm kidding Site-User!

WHat good is IQ if you missed the image because you're futsing with the menu instead of having a second wheel.

I disagree. You understanding is correct for a tiny percentage of situations, where a very high iso is needed (above iso3200).

only at ISO 6400 and above is the K-x "better". K7 wins for anything below that

guess it depends on how serious you want to be.........

both will take the same lenses, and in my experience it's 70% ground camera interface that makes a good photo, and no, i don't mean a tripod or monopod.

Over here the K-x which is a k-m with slightly bigger sensor is £500 with kit lens (yes, thats £ not $) and a K-7 with kit lens is about £950 (again, £ not $)

advantages of K7 - you can grip it for extra battery life............. and its weather sealed (or as we say, waterproof - to an extent - don't take it swimming!!!)

advantage of a K-x - smaller body (is that an advantage?) (though no grip available yet), runs on AA batteries, so if you cock up and forget to recharge the rechargeable batteries the nearest corner shop / garage / can help you out for a couple of £........... the K7 is integrated battery only.......

also for all you pixelpeepers, I believe the K7 is 14.2 MP and the K-x is 12.4MP, however my K-m is 10.2 and I print off at A3 size quite happily and have done an A2 which is also pretty good.........

when Pentax releases a new camera next year, the K-7 would be a great 2nd body rather than the k-x, assuming that the new Pentax camera is better overall. then you can say byebye to the K20D.
