Do people really shoot in JPEG???

I'm just wondering... it seems all the comparisons between the Kx and K7 are largely regarding Jpeg performance... but do any 'semi-pro' level users actually shoot in JPEG????

A few do and they are people who are respected and very good shooters. I still simply do not get it unless you're printing right from the camera.

I'm certainly not 'semi pro', but I think just about every image you've seen from me in this forum is jpeg. Sometimes I tweak sharpness and contrast a bit in PP.

I don't but the K-x's JPEG engine is so good that I am considering it. I often shoot in high-ISO and having to step out of LR to do NR is getting annoying (since LR2's NR sucks)

I am not a pro, but I have seen one on TV

When you are as awesome as I am... And you always get the exposure and WB perfect... why bother with that fussy RAW... all that extra data just so you can fix what you done got wrong! Just get it right!

Why would a pro or even a semi-pro bother!

I wrote a little Haiku about it... goes something like this here

Big black camera
Suck your money eat your time
Lost time lost focus

Raw needy image
Make no mistake perfection
Jpeg sets you free

with k100d i used to shoot in jpeg 99% of time. But i never used out of camera files directly, i did post processing on all the jpeg files. It also means that I would shoot on min saturation and min sharpness settings.

I shot jpeg when I first got the K200D, but after a while decided to see how the RAW would fly, now I shoot RAW, just because of the additional flexibility in post processing. You can always get it perfect.. and its nice to be able to tweak. and, TBH, not that impressed with the jpegs coming out of the cam :-/

I think it depends on what photography is for people. With all the functionality the K-x and K-7 have buildt-in, I don't see why everybody have to use raw.

I use raw always, but I'll be doing a lot of testing of JPEG when I get my K-x (today, withing the hour :P) just to see how it is and for a review of it. And so I know how it is to set up for shooting time lapse, which I do.

For other stuff, I always use raw and will continue to do so with the K-x.
