they now have the same checksum

Interesting -
I just went and downloaded the US FW at:
http://www.pentaximaging.com/images/temp/63397870058531193022067kx_e101w.exe

BUT whatever it is now (1:30PM EDT, Jan/1/2010)
the file I downloaded was only 228K -
which obviously cannot be right.

The downloaded file obviously would not execute or extract

But I ran ExactFile on that tiny .exe file anyway
(remember the checksum is for the .exe file and not the .BIN) :

Yes, I attempted the download several times using both FireFox -
and it continues to deliver that tiny file.

BUT when I tried IE7 in case there was any difference -
there WAS!

IE7 managed to download the proper file size which executed and extracted -

FireFox 3.5.6 (latest version) continues only capable of downloading the tiny 228K file (new tab, new window, refresh all tried)

Weird huh?

EDIT to ADD -

Just in case FireFox had some kind of weird caching problem I shut it down ran cCleaner to clear caches and cookies and re-opened FireFox and tried the download again - this time the result was even more ridiculous getting a file of only 16.8K this time -

hmmm... I wonder if my copy of FireFox 3.5.6 has developed a problem with the US site since the last time I successfully downloaded the FW - just a couple of days ago.

I just used FireFox to download from the Japan site and that seems just fine.....

Well I tried with Google Chrome Browser as well and the download from the US site was also fine -

vincent,

i just downloaded using firefox 3.5.6. it took 2 seconds! apparently it was reading from the cache.
try clearing the download cache.

tools -> options -> advanced -> network
offline storage
clear Now

i downloaded 8.8mb .

what i observed with the new FWs is that the SR "feels" more active. i can definitely feel it buzzing more than in version .05. nothing scientific. just observations.

regards,
jordan

Thanks for the advice.

That did the trick FireFox must have cached the initial tiny file - I guess then every time I tried to download it again it would just give me the cache?

But that doesn't explain the later 16.8K and then even 42Kb files I got......

But whatever it was, it is now downloading fine. Thank you.

Interesting.

I'll give it a few more days for others to try the "latest" FW 1.01 -
before I upgrade my FW 1.01.00.05 to this FW 1.01.00.07......

It would be nice if they made the battery indicator a bit more realistic -
to me it's a bit disconcerting to see the half orange so early on (at about 2/3 remaining capacity)
personally I'd prefer to see it at about 1/2 remaining capacity
- but I can live with it as-is.

I wonder why they updated it "quietly" without any announcements from 1.01.00.05 to 1.01.00.07?
from the numbering "convention" it would seem this should be a very minor/negligible change -
but you observed about 1.5Mb worth of differences -
hardly "insignificant".

i think the download mechanism in firefox checks the source file if it's the same as the one in its cache. if it is, it uses the cached copy. if not, it goes ahead and downloads.

i agree that it's disconcerting to see the half-orange battery meter so early in the game, but at least we know now that at half-orange, quite a lot of shots can still be taken.

my eneloops just ran out. i'm using the Lacrosse nimh batteries that came with the bc9009 now.

when this battery set empties, i'll put back my NiZn's.

regards,

jordan
