Looked at K-x at local shop

Int the last four years, I've owned a K100D, K10D and a K20D.

With each iteration of DSLR, I've found the AF speed to be slightly better as I moved up in bodies.

Today, I went to the local B&M which carries Pentax and asked to see the K-x. The had it in stock with the two lens kit.

I had my k20 with me and took it in so that I could make a couple of comparisons.

What I found. The K-x is definitely a much smaller body and felt very nice in my hands. It does nad the top LCD and I might miss having that. Or, maybe not.

What I found that I liked most was the AF speed. My K20D focuses quite quickly but I think the K-x out performed it in speed. I did the comparison using the DAL 18-55 and the DAL 50-200 that were with the K-x kit.

I have a sneaking feeling that a K-x might very well end up in my bag along with my K20D.

Of course, just an in store comparison may not tell the entire story but I can sure tell you that I think my K-x may be a killer body.

My $.05

I've been through many of the same bodies as you and I now have the k-x too which I find to have quite an improvement in autofocus over my k20d. There are still things I like better about the k20/k10, but there are definitely times where the k-x is the better tool.

But it's so light and small, it's much easier to have a 2 cam kit than w/ 2 of the bigger boys. And I find that once you get used to the interface of the k-x, it's really pretty easy to get used to. Plus you'll have a video cam at the ready in those instances when video might capture the moment better/ differently than a still. Personally, I'm glad I bought the k-x.... it won't displace the k20, but it'll make a nice companion to it.

Amazed you could find a local store with a K-x on display. That's a good sign.

They have them here at both ultimate electronics (a decidedly non-camera centric store) and the local camera chain national camera.

Speaking of 2 body kits, I agree the K-x and K20 make a great pair. I was just in our local shop to try the panasonic GF1 as well (which I just placed my order through panasonic direct, I get an awesome corporate discount and couldn't resist)...when does it end?!

I just got my White K-x in the mail and I couldn't be happier. I got it so I could make my K100D the back-up. Some had said the K-x felt cheap, but beside the fact that it's lighter the the K100D, it feels just a solid. It's just a smaller camera. One thing I was pleasantly surprised about was how much easier it is to focus my manual lenses with the K-x. The viewfinder is nice a bright for a digital cam. I was thinking about getting a new focusing screen but I don't think it will be worth the trouble.
