K20D Problem: Manual and Menu not working

Hello all.
Few days ago I switched on my K20D to find out that Menu Button doesn't appear to respond and camera works only on automatic mode.
After switching camera displays "Ver:1.00" which dissapears after a while and top panel LCD displays "OFF". I can illuminate that screen it and change EV hovewer I cannot set neither shutter time nor apperture.
Tried to remove both battery and SD card and reinsert them but it didn't work.
Would updating firmware help (if Menu button doesn't work)?
Thanks for your help

I have a similar problem with my K10: The rear screen simply stops workikng. I can shoot no problem and the top display works. Then it comes on after a bit of time. Battery or card removal does not seem to make a difference. One of the reasons I upgraded to the K7.... didn't feel like sending the K10 in.

Hi Anamnezis - welcome to the forum.

If your K20 is showing the version when switched on, that suggests it is seeing the menu button as permanently pressed. Does it feel stuck?

The other curiousity is that you are on version 1.0. Mine was supplied with V1.01 and the current standard is 1.03. I doubt upgradeing will sort the problem, but it's got to be worth doing.

The menu button doesn't feel stuck and it looks perfectly normal as well.

I did but unfortunately it didn't help.

What just makes me wonder is why the camera is working on Green and P mode but is not on any of the "half manual" and hyper manual modes?
And what does it have to do with the menu button pressed?
I tried to browse internet to find solution but nobody seems to have similar problem to mine.
Any other ideas what can I do or I just need to service it (which I would prefer to consider as a last resort)?
Thx

Sorry - not much else I can think of. When you took the battery out did you leave it out long? Try at least an hour.
