Originally posted by volvomanny I was talking to a lens repairer and he was saying if you upgrade your camera firmware with a SDM lens attached it upgrades the SDM Lens firmware too.
Im not really sure if it was any truth to it (i normally have my DA* Lens mounted, when i upgrade my firmware)
On the plus side i have always found my 16-50mm always focusses (Both my K20d and K7 flawlessly)

That makes no sense at all. The camera body determines when a picture is in focus, not the lens. All the lens has is some info about its parameters and an auto-focus mechanism that is controlled by the camera (whether via screw-drive or SDM). There's nothing in there that needs "upgrading". That's why focusing tends to be more efficient from camera to camera when using the exact same lens.
What you're describing would require us to update the firmware multiple times, once for each SDM lens we own. That's beyond silly. There's no "firmware" in the lens because there's nothing re-writable in there. It's hardware, and the info is burned-in permanently.
